Got to yard tonight and my horse was in the other field. As I got up to him yo was there and said she thinks he has pushed her gelding (his fieldmate) through the leccy tape. His flyrug has a few holes in it and she said one of her horses has a few cuts. So he has been put in a field on his own but next to her horses. Im not too happy about this and I am unsure if he barged through the tape because of her mare who he was in with at the start of the week and then she moved her out and put her gelding in with him. When I left tonight he seemed happy grazing in the field next to her horses but her mare wasnt in the field. So what do I do?

Im not really happy with the way the yo has handled this.

Ive also noticed he has been chewing the wood of some trees in the field. Could this be a mineral deficient thing? Also there isnt a lot of grazing in the field that he is in.

Your YO doesn't seem to have a clue about how to settle horses. Have you asked her why he cannot go out with the mare he was originally with? I don't fully understand your post as you say YO thinks he pushed her gelding through the tape and that one of her horses has some cuts. Is it the same gelding? I'm a bit confused to be honest.

Sorry I shall clarify she thinks my horse pushed her other gelding who my horse was with in field through the fence. However, she has another horse who is for sale who is in with the mares (the main herd) who had cuts to his legs which she thinks my horse did. Im not sure she has a clue either tbh. He got very attached to the mare he was originally with and she now wont have them together. I asked his old owners whether he'd been out with any mares and he said he hadn't.

If he seems happy at the moment, leave him. If he has other horses next to him he won't feel too lonely & you were having problems when he was in with the mare.

See how things have gone overnight, then look at it afresh in the morning. TBH I can understand the YO not wanting any shananigans.

She thinks he did this, that and the other... amazing, a psychic YO.
If she carried out proper introductions she might avoid some problems, but geldings do tend to a bit of rough and tumble don't they?

legaldancer - true.

Tinypony - yes geldings can be a bit rough and it seems he is too.

Kitsune - not really, they're all bitchy round here. I might go back to a yard Ive been to before. The only thing is is that when I was there the hay and straw was really dusty and my horse had copd. Although since then there have been new owners of the yard so it may have changed.

Lippy - I dont think there is a plan of action. He will stay on his own.

The other thing is he likes eating the bark from the trees. Im a bit worried about this. Although there isnt a lot of grass in his field.

I dont know much about trees but I'd like to know what tree just to make sure it isn't poisonous.

If its only hay and straw at the old yard, might be worth going there til winter and seeing what else you can find in the meantime. That way you have a while before you have to worry about bedding/hay quality. That's if you want to move, but I always find on a yard if the first few weeks is a nightmare - the place is a nightmare lol

Kitsune - I think its an oak tree, but Im not sure though. I think I'll have to fence it off and put some hay down in the field & a lick. Thats true about yards. I dont think I'll be staying though if hes on his own and theres not a lot of grass in the field.
