If anyone has time to read my respiratory tract infection post below and has any advice/experience please can you send it through. I've just been sat here all evening reading about stragles and I am really concerned Mickey could have it......

I haven't had much experience of strangles TBH but dont like to think of you sat there worrying and noone answering! My old yard had strangles and from my experience the ponies that had it, the first symptoms they all had were snotty noses, coughs etc before any swollen glands. You say Mickey doesnt have this so i can only see this as a good sign. How is he in himself? as the ponies that had it were all very unwell i.e not eating, depressed etc. It good that your vet had taken a swab straight away and not left it so even if it is ( which i am not saying it is... ) it should be caught sooner rather than later. Hope i have been of some help.... try not to worry till you have to. ((((( Good vibes )))) coming your way.

Thank you for your message. Much appreciated. My OH is away on business at present so I have been really stewing about it. He hasn't had a cough or nasal discharge. Just the glands under his jaw are very swollen and he has been struggling to eat. His temp was 93.3 today. Main symptom was the discomfort in his head and depressed mood/lethargy over the last week.
We have isolated him now. I just hope it is a lesser infection. I think he either picked it up when he went to Hickstead 10 days ago, or maybe one of the other horses stabled at the yard (that compete) has brought something in. Either way, I will feel a whole lot happier when we have some results from the swab/bloods.

Hi, I has similar symtoms with my colt, the vet couldnt find anything but my local saddlery recommended NAF Respiraze and it worked a treat. Took a while to get going, 2 weeks on the higher dose but then cleared up in days!! I tis quite expensive, nearly £50 but it was well worth it!!
