Hi I am looking forward to doing my first dressage test at the end of june, we normally do sj and xc so really nervous, it is only riding club and the test is prelim 12 or I could also do prelim 18 I havent decided which one yet though

firstly I dont have a clue what I should be wearing

Secondly what tack my horse should wear, can I use double bridle or is only a snaffle permitted,

Any tips and advice would be greatly appreciated thanks

Hi Nikki,

I will be watching this thread with interest as I am going to my first dressage (in many years) comp' next weekend.

For Prelim' it is only snaffle bridles allowed (no grackles/ boots/ martingales etc as I understand it).

Good Luck!!!!!

Here is a link to the BD 2011 rules, http://www.britishdressage.co.uk/rules
if you have a glance through each section it will answer (hopefully) any questions you may have, you may be doing unaffiliated but usually the same rules apply so you won't go far wrong if you stick to the above.

You'll be fine in either a navy, black or tweed jacket.

Unaffiliated events tend to be more relaxed with what you wear under your jacket, any colour stock, or shirt with a neat tie will be fine if you don't want to go out specially to buy something new but to be 'correct' ideally you need to stick light colours, so cream, white etc. stocks, doesn't matter if they have a slight pale pattern on them neither. Buff, cream, yellow or white jods/breaches, long boots or joddy boots and smart gaiters either black or brown.

It's smarter to plait up but again if you can't be bothered or you have a traditional, I wouldn't loose any sleep over it so long as the horse/pony is tidy and clean.

Just enjoy yourself and good luck!:)
