Has anyone got any good sugestions for lighting. My horse lives out at the moment, but we have two stables at the entrance to the field that face each other and a shed that we keep our bits and pieces.Has anyone got any ideas of some way we can get lighting ..We have no electric at the field so would have to be battery powered.. Would be thankful if anyone has any ideas

Old car batteries and lamps that attach to them. We got ours from Halfords. I think they are called inspection lamps.

thanks .. that could be a very good idea .. My Dad works in the motor trade so im sure he could find some old car batteries .. Are they bright enough ?

Advert on tv at the moment - think its JML - little stick on lights that you can put anywhere. Think you'd need a fair few but might be worth a look.

Not overly bright but enough to see what your doing, alternative idea is to use leisure batterys which have a longer life and are designed to run flat, and conect them to an inverter which will give 240v maybe even get a little wind turbine to charge the batterys, saves taking them home to charge!

a 12v (car batteries) system would be the easiest if you dont want to run a generator. the best lights for the job are 12v strip lights because they use less power but still give out a good light! also in budget allows it would be worth investing in a solar powered trickle charger to keep the battery topped up!

thanks you all for your ideas I think I will have a look around .. will need to get a move on though before the clocks change. Won't need to be that bright as horse will be living out all the time hopefully.Just don't want to spend alot of money to realise that they do not do the job i want them to

You can get the 12v strip lights with crocodile clips to go straight on a car battery from any caravan shop. They look dim but do give enough light off to see what you are doing.

feel free to pm me as I have just set up lighting off a leisure battery for two stables and a store, its fab you would never know it wasn't mains electic. Happy to send you links of where I got everything from/wiring diagrams etc. xx

Just wanted ideas on what everyone used as i had been thinking something to do with car batteries as these will be easier to get hold of .But was open to ideas so thank you for all your ideas and i will have a think through what will be best.

Leisure/Car battery will be the best. I wouldn't advise going down the generator route cos it'll just end up getting nicked - we've had 3 nicked and two of those were locked in an industrial container!!!

Thankfully we now have electricity but before the gennie we used a car battery and it was fine.

if you just need a bit to see where you are going what about some solar powered garden lights??? Should get enough light during the day to still be shining some light when you are down there seeing to the horses, and they are cheap and fuss free.
