Hi, I have just been mad enough to buy an ex racer/broodmare to reschool as a riding horse. I live in Cyprus and I am trying to make a decision where to keep her...
option 1 = where she is (where I bought her from) - 15 mins north of where I live in the mountains. Nice stable, nice yardy bit, nice breeze, nice view. But no schooling arena just a small patch of grassy undergrowth and hacking is with a racehorse they are training on the same route each time. Nice views but a sheer drop on one side of the tracks in the hills. She was a bit nappy and exciteable but hope this will improve. Paying 200 euro and that's whether I go there or not. so full livery (ish) but I usually help a little bit each evening. 2 feeds a day and hay. Just me and the owners ( they have 5 hosses). Vets from the bases (UK MOD bases) not allowed to go there so can be harder to get a vet. can't take work car there. Come across nobody on hacks.
Option 2 = one saddle club, 30 mins southish of where I live but is one of the main bases I work at. has an arena but usually has lessons in it and a grass field for riding in. Hacking is in the valley there with XC but this is shared with waterer systems and rugby in some areas, though has some nice trees, tracks and grassy bits. horsey area ok but muggy as near sea and they are all in fly rugs and veils from head to toe. 220 euro and mucking out is 5 euro a day extra. Possibility of working there as instructor. Come and go whenever.
Option 3 = another saddle club 30 mins south of where I live but I work at the base 3-4 days a week and could get away with taking the work car there 5 days a week as right next to work location. Has an arena but you can ride in there if there's lessons (not lunge). also a small jumping field. some xc jumps. can hack over the base and along the cliffs. bit smaller place than the other base, come across dog walkers and runners on hacks.. 220 euro for full livery so would never have to lift a shovel ever again and up to 3 feeds a day and hay and they will do the farrier for you. No fly rugs there. Noisy aircraft - funnily enough. Nice stables/ horse areas but you're expected to leave when they do in the winter.
What do u think? Oh how crap I am at decisions...
