Hi All,
Am looking for a new rug for my mare, this is the first year ever I have bought a combo, have always had arabs and they wear heavyweight pessoas and are turned out 24/7 happily roughing it un-clipped.
Well this year my homebred TBx who also used to happily roughed it in a pessoa un-clipped is now broken and will be being ridden, she will be blanket clipped, and I am looking for a decent heavyweight combo rug, can anyone reccomend one? have about £150 to spend.

Also have seen snuggy hoods are these any good?

Thank you!

derby house medium combo turn out! think they are about £50 now as bought one a few weeks ago very very good my tb in 1 at the mo and its fab (not actually in it at the moment but will be when a bit colder)

Horseware for sure! I was so so so impressed with the quality and fit of an Amigo for my TBx last winter, they're beautiful rugs and I really feel like she's warm and cosy and that the rug will last a long time. Got the detachable neck which is really easy to put on and take off as it just uses velcro (but holds very firmly).

I wanted to get in it myself! After experiences with Derby House and other cheap brands, I've vowed only to buy quality makes from now on (and Horseware fit the bill!).

Premier Equine - because I have seen most of our grass liveries, of varying shapes and sizes winter out really well and the rugs last too. No other rug from cheap to mega bucks has stood up the way these rugs have. We do get quite extreme weather as well as we are on top of the downs so these rugs have to be tough.

Snuggy Hoods - I have bought one for my boy to help reduce the mud intake but would not leave it on a horse that was 24 x 7 as 1. not 100% sure its totally waterproof, 2. Not keen on the idea of something which could slip over the horses eyes if they were living in in all the time. They are also expensive (so one with a neck without ears and zip) is around £65 or you can buy just the head with no neck - @£30. I invested in one for me as my boy does not go out for long before he starts yelling to come back in but he is a gray and anything that reduces the work needed to keep him clean is welcomed!

I used to have one. Although they are not 100% waterproof, they kept my horse so warm and being of nylon type fabric, they dry almost instantly.

What about the Masta Zing heavyweight turnout combo ?
I have one of these for my pony & it's great.

For my TB she has Weatherbeeta Orion & Orican both combo heavyweight turnouts.

Both my horses live out 24/7 365 with access to a shelter & all rugs stood up to our extreme winters.

XxX

I also like the Mark Todd ones, got a lightweight and medium weight which are fab, so i have invested in a heavy weight combo for this winter, it arrived last week i cant wait to get it on him:)

I bought a second hand Aerborn heavyweight turnout. It is an absolutely stunning rug! Really deep, really warm, 1200 denier and a great fit on my very fine TB x WB - and it doesn't move!

Had a look for you - they are on the link below at about £80 and are work every penny.

It is the Aerborn Orkney Heavyweight Turn Out Rug.

Hope this helps!

For a TB would recommend Mark Todd as they're a deep fit and generous size. Haven't got one yet but also like the look at the new Caldene rugs - Excel ones but think that's cause i'm loving the colour!! They're on sale too at Equestrian Outfitters UK so quite cheap too (though not the purple ones which is the one I love - booo!)

I already have the loveson combo 400gm, and am going to get the 200gm one shortly. I found that the loveson make fits my TB's well, and seem to stand up to everything that gets chucked at them

I have the Orican Freestyle combo for my TB which is great. I also use a snuggy hood with ears & zip, but try & avoid using it under the combo as it may rub his mane out.

I really recommend the snuggy hoods (have 2), but didn't get on with the head only version.
