I am doing a hunter trials next weekend. Just got the schedule, the classes are 2'3'' or 2'9'', I can't decide which to do!
My horse is capable of jumping 2'9'' and I used to show jump him at this height fairly regularly, however he's never jumped this high xc and is still fairly green cross country, also he has barely jumped in the last year due to along time off injured. He's now back to normal and recently went round a 2'3'' course of showjumps at a local show, easily getting a double clear without looking at anything. I was going to do the 2'6'' but had to leave to go to work
Other than that he has only done a few little showjumps and the odd log out hacking since he was injured but as I say before this he was confidently jumping bigger.
In normal circumstances I would probably enter the 2'9'' but as he has barely jumped all year and I am still being a bit carefull after his injury I feel like I should do the 2'3'', I know this will be really easy for him though and don't want to seem like I'm pothunting or anything. I know the course and most of the 2'9'' jumps I would do but there are a few more challenging ones that put me off a bit and I think he may back off (though don't know, he is normally very bold across country). I don't get to go out competing much so this will probably be our only chance before next spring. Basically should I play it safe and do the smaller class or push ourselves a bit and try the 2'9'' ?
Sorry this is so long!
