In May my horse fell over in the trailer but was thankfully unhurt & fine. He's been in my trailer (and in boxes) many times before but this time he fell. I've also taken his to local shows since & he's been fine. But on Sunday I'm taking hhim on the Newmarket ride which is a 2 hour drive & I am beginning to panic.. Any ideas how I can calm down?? I literally feel sick & faint thinking about it.

have u got company with you. I prefer towing with someone with me in the car just incase something does happen. This may put you at ease knowing you are not alone.

Do you know why he fell? Just drive slowly and take wide turns and slow breaking. He'll be fine. Give yourself plenty time, take a phone and relevant numbers and lunge line in case you need to unload. Hopefully it was a one off. Good luck and have fun!!!

I was in the same position - my mare after years as a great traveller went down in our horsebox - 3 times on a journey. It was horrific - she is 16.3hh. I was so lucky that we had to the floor partitions as we were travelling 2 horses.

I was too scared to try again until I knew why she fell down. I used a communicator and my horse could only say she felt so dizzy she fell and she was also dreading travelling again.
Finally an experienced horse transporter convinced me that my problem was with travelling her kerbside,(apparently many horses cannot travel kerbside) so I plucked up the courage just to take her around the paddock driver side and bingo she was fine. That reinstalled my confidence and I now have on of these fisheye reversing cameras in my trailer ( I sold the lorry). Cheap and totally brilliant!

Allow yourself plenty of time & work out where you can stop on route - service station/garage/layby so you can check the horse is travelling wel, say every 20 mins or 20 miles. That way if you are worrying you know you only have a few more miles to go before your next stop & check.

Yes I always have company with me.. usually my mum as she brings her mare with my boy. They are in an Ifor Williams 510 and are both 16'1. I have no idea why he fell and he was on the drivers side. He didn't panic while he was down or being reloaded & we still went & completed the cross country ride..
