i am looking for a new pony between 13.2 and 14 h am very novice but want one that will jump and isnt too lazy dont mind what breed but has to be broken in if possible tack with it also budget it about £150 on loan please help and post any you find below thanks

Without sounding rude, you would be better spending your money on some lessons at a good riding school until you can safely go out on your own and you certainly don't want one that needs breaking and schooling!

I agree with Candida, You need to be more than very novice before taking on your own pony because there is so much that can go wrong and the consequences can be physically and financially painful.
Have some more lessons and help out at the riding school until you are very experienced and that will give you time to save some more money which you will certainly need when you have one of your own.

I don't understand. You're a novice, but 9 months ago you were jumping 3'0"?

thanks im doing about 2 ft 9 3 ft at the mo i will pm you a video of me jumping her. Thank you for the advice :)

Why have you got a budget of £150? But you want one on loan? Loan horses are normally free? If you have such a low budget, then how are you going to afford to keep the horse?

I agree with above. Have some lessons in a riding school. £150 should get you 5 or so good lessons.

i dont want to sound rude or upset you but i dont think you are ready to own a horse or loan one. have you seriously thought this through or are you just thinking about all the riding you will do ? horses cost alot regardless of weather you have one on loan or you buy it eg. livery of £40 + per week, feed, hay,straw/shavings, wormers, vaccinations, farrier visits, insurance, vet bills, dentist visits, tack replacements, petrol or transport money if you cant drive. also will need rugs ext. i have probs missed things out but they were off the top of my head. if you have to feed your self it will cost more in winter. if your horse is ill you still have to pay excess on premiums. what if you cant ride him/her due to its illness? you would still have to pay for it. you will have to poo pick everyday, go see it everyday in sun, rain, snow, ice , wind ext. you cant have a week off. and if you go away on holiday who will look after it for you?

i would have to agree with everyone else that has commented about this. i would use that money to get some more riding lessons and save up properly for a horse, please dont rush to buy /loan one, there will always be horses about no matter when you are ready. a horse isnt just something you ride every week they need a hell of alot of care and alot of money to keep properly.
please dont get offended by what i have written, but i think you would be making a mistake buying /loaning a horse/pony at the moment as it doesnt sound like you are ready or have the knowledge to care for it properly xx

There are some cheap and free horses and ponies out there, but often for a reason. A free horse, lots if time money and heartache later and you have spent well over 2000.

Take my new boy for example, we took him on knowing he needed a lot of TLC he wasn’t overly cheap (ex racer so they tend to be less anyway) £225 for vetting £395 to transport him here. £200 on rugs and accessories, £90 for his saddle that I don’t think fits, teeth rasping today £75, worm count and wormer £30. I also have just booked the back man and a saddler. £120 = 1 Months livery in advance and £60 just on bedding to get a bed down in his stable I am sure i have missed a few things, but this is what i wanted to do, I wanted a project. So as you can see, I have only had him 10 days and without feed and 9 bags of bedding I have since used he isn’t cheap.

Maybe you could find someone who needs a sharer that can give you lessons on something bombproof. That way you will gain horse care experience also, and maybe just get away with helping with shoeing and feed costs.

Sorry agree with the above but will be more blunt.

£150 budget means that you cannot afford a pony. That wouldn't keep one properly for a month unless you have your own land and even then with the cost of hay rocketing you will struggle.

You need to think again.
