Hi,
I have today decided to join up after being a HHO lurker for about 6 months to ask for some help.
I sadly had to retire my old mare last month and am now looking for a youngster to bring on for eventing, I am after something max 16.3hh no older than 5 no younger than 4 that is broken and going nicely, but I dont mind and would prefer something that needs a stamp putting on it, if you know what I mean!
so have found this mare she is in Devon so only about an hour away (dont want to travel for hours), looked a nice type and inside my budget, always fancied a trakehner for eventing, does anyone have any views on them?
here is her advert
http://www.adhorse.co.uk/horseforsale_34855.html
Would be grateful for any help not to good on conformation etc as my mare jsut seem to fall into my hands and has always been super.
Also any suggestions on places to look?
Thank you!

I think she will definatly need a lot of work on the flat and there no pictures of her jumping so she may not look that good jumping.

I would have a look on horsemart, horsequest and h&h :)

She is a bit of a porker! But nothing that a quick diet and some exercise wouldn't sort out!
Obviously green but that is no bad thing, at least she hasn't been over produced.
If local enough I would certainly think worth a look. Traks can be quite intelligent/opinionated so bear that in mind, dependant on your ability.

Personally, I think for that kind of money you could find something better!
I have just bought a young horse to hopefully event (in a few years time) and he was little over £1000 including tack. dont get me wrong I think she's lovely, but not for that kind of money! I also think she'd need quite a bit of schooling for dressage, and jumping, so it would be a lot of time and effort :)

Good luck in your search :) x

Thank you for the replies, yes agree about the porker, but I get it from her advert that she isnt ridden much due to other commitments which is no worry, she doesnt look obese!
I have been looking for about 3 weeks and can find nothing under 4k that hasnt been over produced, want something that needs time and work so that can bring on myself, I liked the fact she was home bred, but has anyone ever bought a homebred then had sperartion issues?
What do you think about conformation, have tried to call but no answer at the minute.

Do you reckon? I think that has a bit of quality about it, which in the right hands provided temprement is good could be turned into something.

I agree, but i think she should be cheaper. I think you could find something a bit further down the line than she is. I think the advert reads better than the photos - she looks very very green, yet they say she has been professionally schooled etc... in that case i would expect her to be working in an outline and see a few pics of her popping a few fences...

Not a bad type, just think you could find something thats done a little bit more for that price. If she was unbroken however, i would be much more tempted

bigboyrocky-it says prof broken not schooled, whay would you be more interested at that price if not broken?
Am not to worried about her being schooled on as wanted on to do that myself with but did want something broken, if anyone fancys some online horse shopping in the devon area on 30 miles radius for something similar cheaper I would be gratefull:D!

I would honestly go and look. She is old enough and strong enough now to crack on with some work over the winter, and to be honest fits the description of what you are after. I personally think 3.5K for a nice type of sporthorse that has been unrushed is more than reasonable. If you want cheap then you can go to the sales and pick up an ex-racer for 1K and take your chances on that, but personally I'd rather shell out a bit more for the type you have linked to.

sorry meant broken not schooled  :p
im not sure, i think its that im not keen on how shes being ridden. Id prefer to buy something thats unspoilt, rather than has learnt something incorrect. It looks to me as if she is fighting he riders hands, tilting her head, and not aloud to go forward at all. I will have a search and try and find something that i do like :p i might find that the markets not as rubbish as i thought though, and be proven wrong - that you cant find something thats done more :p

eta - do you want something thats broken as ive just seen a lovely unbroken youngster :)

PS - I agree about the rider on top, she isn't much cop. That can be viewed in a good or bad way, depends how much schooling she has done with the horse which you will only find out when you sit on it. But in a way I view it as a slight positive in relation to a horses temprement to put up with a non-pro rider.

Thats very true, as you say depends how much shes been riding her..

Looking for something broken, 5 years no younger pref no older! and not done masses.
Have left a message about this mare, just something I like about her, sounds silly but is the same shade of chocolate bay as my mare, and they are so easy to keep clean!

OP - I like the horse, nice quality and sounds unspoiled but ready to crack on with - definitely worth a look I think.

Nice horses but not looking for something that is full TB, want something TBx and that will keep a bit of condition, this is what I came up against when I was looking everything under 4k had done something and was a full TB!

i don't mind her but would need to see more photos before going to see her- i would like one of her stood up and one over a fence.

the only niggle from those photos is that her jaw is crossed in all of the photos- a habit that can be tricky to erradicate.

Hollywozzle- I love the coloured, shame he is a bit small and 1k out of my price range.
Have spoken to the owner who couldnt sound more genuine, mare isnt ridden much, she doesnt have time for her, used to riding endurance arabs so no she isnt made to work in an outline etc by her, but sounds lovely and genuine. only down point is as the mare didnt sell she decided to send her away on full schooling livery to a local pro rider to have back and maybe keep maybe sell in the spring, she is going well and jumping tracks at yard well, she has said if im interested when she comes home and she still wants to sell I am welcome to view, she sounded very nice and a very genuine type, def looking for a trakehner type now!
Gutted.... search continues!
