Hi
Hopefully someone on here can point me in the right direction.

We are a family of 4. With 2 boys aged 13 and 15. Our 13 year old son suffers from Autism. We would love a family dog, we are hoping to find a Labrador that is calm, house trained , crate trained, and can walk nicely on a lead. I'm finding it almost impossible to find a trained dog!... i can find thousands of puppies but not a dog that is around the 2year age.. would anyone have any advice or know anyone? (The being around the 2year age is because they should be out of the nipping puppie stage, which my son couldn't deal with)..

“Suffers from Autism”? That’s so rude.

Do you like dogs? Do you want a dog? I would start there, a dog isn’t a golden ticket to help an autistic child. Mine would much prefer a snake.

This is a lovely charity too. I sponsor a puppy 😊

Dogs for Good is an excellent charity. I have met several of their puppies supplied to Seeing Dog Alliance.

You'd be much better, OP, getting a specially bred/trained dog. It won't be cheap and there are some cowboy outfits out there, but you'll have the peace of mind in having a horse for the course.

Three puppies from previous litters of ours have gone to families with autistic children. Pleased to report they have all been great success….( yes we keep in touch with virtually all new owners)

Whereas Id have been dead long ago without mine. And they made my childhood bearable.

My friend has one for her autistic boy, hideous hips and elbows and huge vet bills. Make sure the dog is heatlhy and tested etc OP. They can be the best support dog in the world but with health issues they wont be suitable.
