PLEASE HELP - What On Earth Is This???

I don't think a brindle gene has yet been identified/sequenced so nothing has really been proven.

I think there has, not sure if Sallyf on here from Groomsbridge Stud doesn't have a brindle mare or at least knows of one. If you look in the breeding forum you might find about it.

As I said in Vet, if she or her skin aren't distressed by it leave well alone and accept she's special.

Ooh thanks Maesfen

*runs off to look*

This looks a possibility to me.

Interesting rhino thanks for the link. Oh and the genetic info.

S'okay :) I find coat colour genetics fascinating, although even with a fair bit of genetics on my undergrad I still get terribly confused

Been looking for this 'brindle gene' and can't find any info anywhere, just hypothesising that it could be related to the white splash gene, a form of reorganising of the expression of the sooty gene or just a well camouflaged 'primitive' colour gene..

It has been located in dogs and cows though, but there are just so few brindle horses around it is difficult to get enough to test. You can test for chimerism with a blood or hair sample though so that would determine if it was non-inherited brindle colour.

My friends horse had something similar!

Vet was baffled! Scrapings taken etc antihistamines given, bedding changed, stable changed, antib's given! I think every possible drug was given!

The owners gave up with the vet as it was costing a fortune and no results! And the lines were getting worse!

They tried global herbs itch free and it calmed it down! Still has a few lines about.

One of the yard owners friends came who's a horse communicator and she said that the horse is stressed about ******* so the owner moved the horse to another yard and over a period of 2 months the lines disappeared so you can barely see them!

Not sure if its the same thing as your mare but worth looking at globals stuff as somehow it did help

Can't think she's stressed??? Been at the same yard since birth and in the same paddock too :confused::confused:. Will tell my friend though!

Hairfall as in her hair seems to fall in a stripey pattern (the way it's lying down) but it nearly dissapears in winter when she gets her winter coat (though it's usually still apparent on her flank)

Winter coat:
