Please can anyone advise me? My laminitic pony has to wear his grazing muzzle out in the field. There is a yearling colt in the same field, who tears at rugs and has now started pulling at my pony's muzzle. He has damaged it, ripped off three lots of padding so far, and yesterday he managed to pull it half off and my poor boy came in with the side of his muzzle jammed into his mouth like a bit. I simply cannot risk this muzzle being pulled off once the grass starts springing up. Does anyone know of anything which tastes disgusting that I could safely use on the straps of the muzzle? Thank you!

chilli paste, but i would check your yearling doesnt like it first! my mare loves mustard so i avoid that now!

Why dont you just put the crib stop stuff on it, but you dont want anything that has a strong smell as your poor boy will have to put up with it all day

Thank you for these suggestions. Very helpful! Does crib stop have a strong smell? I didn't know if you could use it on rugs etc. or if it was just for woodwork! This is a whole new problem for me, as you can tell. Thanks again!

I don't think crib stop does, it is oily but I've sprayed it on my boy's rugs with no problems. I'd rather they were a bit greasy on the outside than in bits lol!! I think I've accidentally got it in my mouth once as well... If anyhting, it made me thinking of nail biting solution, which leaves a nasty lingering taste in your mouth without being overly offensive smell wise

I was told that the cheapest nastiest tasting hairspray would work (I know people will probably be horrified and say its got nasty ingredients in or something but I think as a deterrent its got to taste foul or it wont work :S...)
AND I tried it on my yearling's rug at home cus one of the others in the herd thought it was fun to pick on him and it stopped the rug ripping completely I haven't even actually had to re-spray it I think it just broke the habit. It also dried, wasnt sticky and didn't stain which I found with a few things ppl had suggested to me. Might be worth a try and its not exactly the most expensive thing...

I have a jar of piccalily I bought at a local church sale, I'd wanted chutney or pickle but they had none left, felt obliged to make a purchase. It is absolutely disgusting. Am more than happy to send it to you if you want it.

Love it! My husband did suggest one of my casseroles. I hope he enjoys his walk down to the chip shop tonight. (Only joking!) I absolutely love piccalilli and have a jar my friend made, but I think little colt might love it too, as it has chunks of carrot in it! As a very temporary measure, I rubbed some soap into the muzzle straps today (only a little, not enough to make little 'un foam at the mouth or get colic!) but it didn't seem to be having any effect when I left. I can get to the tack shop tomorrow for crib stop. Thanks for all the help. All suggestions welcome!

Tabasco sauce!!!!!

Get the muzzle straps when he has not go it on obv. And run a line of it along the straps!

I had to use it on a rug my puppy was trying to anayolate and wokred a treat!!!
