Hi all!

I would really love any advice on this peeps.

I have two horses, one 16.3hh and one 15.3hh, both warmobloods, up to weight but not heavy heavy horses. I have recently sold our horsebox and wanted to get a trailer as my larger horse can be a pain to load and was much better in the trailer we had before...(which was a rice with one bracing bar across). I am now wondering which trailer to get?? I know i want an alloy floor as wood deteriorates too much. Alot of people say ifor williams are good but then im wondering do i need a 505 or a 510?? I have also heard Batesons are good and lighter to tow?? But what model would i need?

Id be so grateful for any advice on what you think i would need and your own experiences with the different makes.

Thank you in advance everyone!

Cassie

We have a Bateson Ascot and reccommend them. It tows m 15hh ShireXHighland (not a light weight by any means) a dream. It also has a built in tack locker with space for 2 saddles and bridles but a tack tray. Also I like the batesons as the front ramp is on the other side to mst trailers - so if the worst happens and you have to unload at the side of the road you are unloading onto the grass verge not into the traffic. They are very light and spacious feeling inside meaning even the most reluctant of loaders load with ease helped with being low to the ground meaning that the ramp is hardly a ramp (very good when u have a little pony that hates loading). The large window at the front lets in lots of light. I have not had a bad experiance with them yet.

So my vote is for a bateson Ascot

I have a 505- Think you would need the 510 as the 505 is only supposed to be for horses up to 16.2 However i do have friends who put a light 16.3 TB in theirs??
Personally though if your buying one i'd go for the 510- also interestingly the older ones are supposed to be better quality!

For quality Ifor Williams are very good & easy to get parts for, I now have a Wessex Olympian (takes up to 17.2) which is huge inside with lovely padded partition & sides. Prefer this because it has independant suspension rather than leaf spring suspension that Ifors have which can give a bumpier ride.

Independent suspension gives a smoother ride. I have a Bateson Deauville, for your bigger horses I vote the Ascot model.

Hello,

I have a 17h warmblood and various others to tow and find my ifor williams 510r really good. The 510 r is the widest/longest/tallest version of the ifor williams and there is plenty of room in there. It tows really nicely and I would certainly recommend them.

I tow it with a 2.5 diesel discovery with no probs at all. I searched for a good trailer and after comparing lots I went with ifor williams.

I have a Classic 510 Ifor Williams and I really like it. My mare is 16.1hh and the 505 would have been too small for her. With a 17hh I think you need a 510 or 511.

another for the Bateson - I bought mine because I was told it had a more modern suspension.

I have an Ifor Williams 511. Today I had my 16.1hh chunky cob cross and a friends 17hh hunter on board. Plenty of room and both horses load and travelled very well.

I am really pleased with the 511.

We have the 510, which my 17h hunter (police horse type) fits in with loads of room. My friend had a 505, which my 16.1 middle weight mare easily travelled in (and actually seemed to prefer). The 510 travels both horses with lots of space.

For our ponies, it is huge, you could get two 12h ponies in each side! They also struggle to reach haynets if tied up in the front!
