I have a tb ex racer who has the typical poor feet. when i had him he couldn't keep shoes on, the vet in conjunction with my farrier put wide web shoes on and i changed from biotin to rock hard supplement and used rock hard application on the soles which improved greatly. over the recent months the feet have grown like wild fire and i arranged for farrier to come every 5 weeks. i use kevin bacon to keep them moist and have now added lime stone flour....basically his heels are low the wall thin and flaky.....the last time he was shod my farrier inadvertently put ordinary shoes back on....could this have contributed to the problem or is it just time of year? I was wondering about giving him dengie for feet rather than adding all these supplements??? any advice would be greatly appreciated.......sorry its long!!!

Id keep him on the suppliments. And id say that the heels are low as this is a typical TB thing but can be helped by using a quarted clipped shoe to get it back further and support the heels.

The fact that they are drying has alot to do with the time of the year and not alot to do with the shoes.

If It was me I would be using NAF hoof moist on the foot twice a day. It is water based and therefore still allows natural moisture levels.

I dont know what you mean by 'dengie for feet'

That is designed to improve foot and for laminitics.. I would stay on a specialist hoof suppliment. Profeet, farrier formula, formula for feet.

that type of thing

I find keratex works best for hardening hooves and keeping shoes on my cob needs it as he could never keep his shoes on, my exracer however had really strong feet

i can sympathise with u because my TB has awful feet, terrible flat feet with thin soles. my horse see's the farrier every 4 weeks gets natural balance shoes on. every so often she has to get her toes pulled back a wee bit to try an give her feet a better shape. NAF pro feet is a wonderful supplement and i also use NAF hoof and sole on her feet slap in on all over her soles, (also used keratex also very VERY gd but so blooming expensive) use effol moisturiser when its really dry weather. shes had 3 absese since ive had her from punctures on her soles but they are hardening up well. she currently has pads on and putty underneath (sole still soft on the hoof which has just had an absese ) so we can do our ride on wednesday shes loving it lol!!

its such a b***ar having a horse wi bad feet, just take patience i suppose. hopefully this will of been her last absese, the reason she got this one was because the farrier wanted to try her barefoot and ridden in old macs. well it didnt work to gd lol!!

okie dokie...i'll stick with the profeet then and keep my fingers crossed ......i wish horses could have hoof transplants that would solve a lot of my worries !!!

Hoof cast! if you want any more details you can pm me.

Its brilliant stuff allowing the shoes to stay on while the healthy foot grows down (which can take up to a year) and improves the strenght of the current hoof wall
