Hi guys just wondering if anyone has any advice, ive had my horse nearly a year and he suffers with severe mites, I have tried the injections from the vet he has had two already, I have clipped him completely out and tried different sprays and powders, he is also living out at the moment so no straw under him.... Any advice or home remedies welcomed I'm at the point where I don't know what else to try

No clipping of legs and use frontline!!! Amazing every with our heavy feathered Belgian draft. Really works a treat. However with the feather you want to use the pipet instead of the spray to get it deep enough. And now is perfect as it needs to be left dry for 48 hours after!

My girl has mites and so far the injection from the vet seems to be working however when I was looking for solutions to the problem, a lot of people recommended pig oil and sulphur alongside other treatments such as the frontline. If you google pig oil and sulphur you will be able to find some info. Good luck, hope you get it sorted soon :)

frontline isnt authorised for horses .... we treated our pony with deosect and coopers fly repellant... expensive initially but once controlled worth the price

I didn't need to clip feathers and used frontline. You need to repeat 10 days later to kill any mites that have hatched. Frontline is not licensed for horses but our horse vet was happy to prescribe it for us.

I also use frontline with my little boy, never clipped his legs out, but vet gave the two injections first then frontline.

Another one for frontline, 3 of mine have had dectomax injections (also not meant for horses but vets will do) I found it not to be effective, vet will give frontline, I like the spray, it's hard work with feathers but my lad is good and stands well for me to seperate feather and do it. It works really well and yes repeat it. I now spray in spring to prevent them coming back. Once gone some sort of pig oil or a mix from a heavy horse supplier once a week helps. U can also get frontline from your local vet if u have dogs and say its for your dog, not really cheeper though.

Bit of a mad 1 but I've done it & it really did work.
Vana cob riddled with mites, his legs were clipped (not by us) we tried the injections, we tried the £50 bottle of frontline but it didn't work sooooo we put on neat iodine & then washed it off with vodka...value vodka..! It really did work.!
