Can anyone who has experience with horses please fill out my questionnaire. The information is looking into People’s perceptions of stereotypies in the domesticated horse (Equus caballus). It will only take a few minutes and is important to see whether horses who display stereotypies possibly have lower welfare. Please follow the link http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/7XYX5VL

Thankyou very much

Think the survey was asking about 'if' you would consider buying a horse with stables vices and how it would effect the market value of a horse. So relevant if your own horses are stabled or not.

If you have an opinion on whether you would take on a horse with stable vices of any degree, or not, I think the OP would find your input very relevant and useful.

Hope I am right on this OP?? :D

DoneI have ticked I wouldnt try to stop a horse acting out the stable vice by using a collar etc but I would turn the horse out 24/7 however. there was no box for that.

Thankyou everyone! ChristmasPixie your right it's just looking at how people feel about horses that show stable vices so doesn't matter whether your horses are in our out or if you even own/loan a horse. Horsesforever1 you have a valid point in hind sight I would have liked to of but a question in about how people would change a horses behaviour but in a none invasive, positive way. Question ten was just to see how many people would use invasive techniques to prevent a horse from carrying out a stereotypy rather than treating the root cause. However I could only ask ten question : ( So far I've had an amazing response and as it is the first time that research into how the general horsie public feel about stereotypies rather than just owners of a horse that shows a stable vices or the opinions of large equine establishments it's very exciting to see how people really view these horses.

It's for my final year dissertation. If it's good enough it stands a chance of being published which would be amazing and will help with establishing how educated people really are and if horse welfare is compromised due to stereotypies. There is no research out there as to how the horsie community views horses with stereotypies. It's only been conducted on large equine establishments and owners of horses that display stereotypies.

Sounds good, it is brilliant that your supervisors are thinking of publishing your dissertation. I'm doing a PhD in the relationship between humans and horses at the moment (psychosocial studies), it is definitely an exciting area of research at the moment. Good luck!
