Please Help!

Poor poor horse, wonder what she has been through. I deffo think you will get somewhere with her though, and it sounds as though your going in the right direction. Remember there are NO quick fixes so set yourselft mini- goals, like be able to touch her legs etc, and spend hours with her, just doing mini-steps until she is totally comfortable with you doing whatever. She may of lost all trust in humans for whatever horrid reason so it might be years before she gets it back, but as with most things 'time heals everything' and in your case that might be a LOT of time! good luck.

What area are you in? this guy is inn the SE. I'm thinking NH, too, as what usually is acceptable (if alien) to horses with only mild wariness and a calm temperament is going to scare her to death.

Don't give up - I get the feeling you know what you are up against and have at least tried the patient approach.

Keep us updated.

I spoke to my instructor (who used to re-train problem horses for a living) and told her what'd happened with your mare. She said 'back problem' and that it must have hurt like hell to generate that response. She said could be from an old injury before you had her, and that in terms of making money, you'd be better off running it through the sales as soon as you can lead it again. That's her with her business head on!

My cob was unhandlable when I first had him. It took 6 months before I could get a head collar on and off him without him bolting across the field.

If I tried in a stable he'd just spin to avoid me or back himself into a corner and shake.

If I tried to lead him he'd walk backwards so he could face me - as I stepped forward he stepped back.

I broke the barrier with food. Hand treats (as you are doing) came a long way down the line so you're ahead of where I started! :D

I didn't have a rond pen or an indoor school either so I just worked in the field.

I started with just sitting quietly near the feed bucket. He'd come, stretch, snatch a mouthful and be off. Eventually (think weeks not days) he'd stay and eat provided I stayed still. Still further down the line I'd hold the bucket.

Once we were ok with that I'd touch him. When he took off just stand still again and let him approach me.

Everything was slowly slowly and in his time and space.

Getting a headcollar on and off is another long story in itself!

If you have the time and patience (and believe me he tried mine endlessly!) I'm sure she will learn to trust you again.

New twist to the story so more advice needed! after hours and hours spent just being with her and building trust iv now managed to get to a point where i can lead her in and out to the field and she will let me run hands over her, still not happy about it but she tolerates it!

however one of our bonding sessions a week 10 days ago i noticed far moremovement in her belly than there should be! shes developed a huge belly on her which has dropped and changed shape, shes developed udders of a sort but def more filled in the morning, the muscles either side of her tail have gone like jelly and thinking about it she hasnt had a season since i got her.

you can tell where this is going! consequently i think she may be pregnant! there is no way shes gonna let a vet near her, she wont let anyone but me just yet. Basically want i want to know what potential problems im looking for (if she is pregnant) resulting from the acp sedalin and fall in my first post?
