i know we have loads of moans about car drivers so i thought id add my own today! Took Dealer out with my other Welshy this morning (have to say she is the worst babysitter in the world!!!) Any way back to the point! We have only been out a few times - only bought him this week - and on the way home Babysitter horse decided that she didint want to go down the particular track home, it is just off a narrow country road on a sharp bend so as she begins arsing about my little boy is standing on the corner (in the road) waiting to get onto the track - car is approaching so i get into the road to warn him we are having a bit of a problem and put my hand up for him to stop. Driver scowls at me carries on at the same speed goes round the back of my 'novice hacker' and blasts his horn for 30 seconds!
I can tell you that a lot of 4 letter words and threats were shouted at the disapearing car! And before any one says 'you'll give riders a bad name' if i could have caught him and was able to safely get off my horse i would have given riders an even badder (gr) name, coz i would have taken my whip and beat the f***er to a pulp!!!!! SO THERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Are you with me or against me?

Yes actions like this can give riders a bad name but what else where you supposed to do to show that he was well and truely in the wrong?! I cannot believe he carried on going AND sounded his horn when you were in the middle of the road and had asked him to stop!
I have asked drivers to stop before and moved into the middle of the road to back up my command and they have just kept coming at me, when will they learn they do not rule the road and cars can kill people!

LOL deffo with you there!! is no need to beep the horn behind the horse. i had a t*t right up my old horses ass once, the look on his face when a 16.3 clydesdale x went to sit on his bonnet was priceless!!! some people out there just dont have manners its not just drivers i found people who walk dog and cyclists can be just as bad especially when they are on the bridlepath and give you a mouthful for ridding your horse on the bridlepath!!! these people tend to get a bit of a mouthful from me as well!!!

Hmmm, I wonder how the driver would have behaved if it had been his child on the pony in the middle of the road ? More consideration needed methinks...although I did have to laugh about the 'babysitter' refusing to go down a track leaving the baby horse waiting patiently ...

I wont be using her as a baby sitter any more!! Every time new one was a bit worried i could almost hear her say to him 'OOOH Yes that is scary i'll run backwards and confuse you even more!!!!' He isnt actually a baby - he is 15!! But he hasnt really done a lot of hacking (compartition pony)

yes, my horse was almost hit today... we were going round a corner, off a small road onto the main road, and this woman just swung right into the lane, didn't even indicate, at about 50 mph... and on the wrong side of the road. Oscar managed to jump out of the way in time, but if it had been a kid on a bike or something....

Take the number plate and make a complaint to the police

Very true.
But not everyone is always in the position to be able to take the number plate down.

girl at our yard chucks her whip at cars that come to close or go too fast - i think it's a good idea

they just wind up the windows if they get yelled at...

I think it's an idiotic idea

I mean, surely it would upset your horse if you sent your crop flying over their head

Not to mention the potential for a road accident.
crazy.gif
Now THAT is the sort of thing that gives horse riders a bad name on the road and makes drivers lessing willing to show consideration

I recko car drivers like that should be asked to get on a horse that a rider is having a problem with, to see what they would do in the situation !!!

he he xx

Yes, if you want to ensure that the driver never acquires any respect towards horses and their riders.

i was at a cattle grid once the bars were loose and everyone knows this, a man came round the blind corner at 60 didn't attempt to slow down my horse jumped about 4 foot stright up and landed on my big toe and broke it a**e holes!!!

The last time a driver ignored us he only just missed having a head-on collision. Hubby had signalled him NOT to overtake on a bend, driver ignored hubby, then found out why he was told to wait!! (we were in a carriage)

I've gotta say I'd be p'd off too but don't tend to have too many problems these days as quite adept at planting myself in the middle of the road as if in work mode. Perhaps it's the body language or the stern glare but it seems to work whatever!

I would of shouted too. Also took his number plate and complained to the police as he was against the highway code which says that motorists have to do what riders tell them.

We had a van coming at us full speed on our side of the road and we only just managed to get out of the way, when things like that happen it happens so fast that you don't always have time to get the number plate.

I did sort it out though. The van was from the company that my Dad works for all I had to do was tell him what time it was etc and he sorted it out
grin.gif
their vans always drive really slowly now and give us lots of room
grin.gif
I don't throw anything at them as it would scare Cropi more but my mouth does go into fisherwife foghorn mode and half the village know about it I reckon!!!

I am sooooo with you, a complete w**ker drove into the hind quarters of my horse, two days later i found him dead in his stable, due to injury
frown.gif
At the time didn't even think about getting his number plate, was far too concerned about my horse and being hysterical, when i turned around to see him, he had driven off. Reported it to the police, they put an appeal in the paper and surprise, surprise no-one came forwards
