I'm looking after a pony who has been unwell for a long time (since Feb this year) all tests have come back inconclusive so we still don't really have any idea what is causing the issues as it was originally believed to be just the stomach ulcers but recent scans have shown a very healthy stomach. She has a thickening of the small intestine which hasn't progressed or gotten worse in this time and doesn't appear to be causing any problems. But has low protein levels that have been slowly increasing although the last blood test they had remained the same.
In this time she has gone from skin and bone to a very healthy weight (vet worried she's getting fat now!) her naughty welshie attitude has returned and she's back to bombing around the fields where as back in june she was lying down alot and very listless.
She's still on a fairly low dose of steroids, b vitamins and gastroguard.

Physical signs all are very positive but on the medical/bloods side things aren't looking too great. She's having a blood test today so all of your good vibes etc are much needed as we need the protein levels to have increased even just slightly to meet the lower end of the average range.

Maybe it's from worm damage in the past? Old horses have more trouble digesting protein and veteran feeds are higher in protein because of this, so if you're giving any nuts or mix I'd make sure it's a veteran type. Hope the blood results show an improvement, it's good that she's looking happier anyway.

She's only 17 so not really old. Not sure about worm damage, I've known her for around 8 years but could of happened with previous owners given they didn't admit she had broken her pedal bone (we only found out after she stood on a nail and needed xrays!) wouldn't surprise me if there were other things!
She's on old faithful veteran mix, calm and condition and topspec at the mo, but she's a fussy little madam!
Hopefully should have blood results later today
