......all peeps who are attending any shows tomorrow, to remember that the committe have spent 6 or 7 hours setting up the show ground in the rain today? :)
We are all now very tired and will not be responsible for the weather (unless it is sunny), for the fact that a) you can't remember which classes you have entered, b) that you can't find your mother, horse, dog ,waggon etc. c) that the judge obviously doesn't like you/your horse/ your mother, that you havn't brought that essential bit of tack, that you haven't read the rules and that your little brother has just fallen off!
Thank you and enjoy :D

I no longer go to shows, but have helped out in the past and you don't get thanks, abuse yes and end up wondering why the hell you did it. So if you are a gutton for punishment and you seem you are I congratulate you for putting so much time and hard work in and your co workers:D:D:D:D

like a lot !! Lol

Thanks to all who do appreciate the work! I am actually taking the Appy to the show myself tomorrow! We will be equitating :D However spent best part of day on show ground today and sister, who did likewise, is spending the day officiating. :)

Can I add...

Try smiling at the young lad lifting all the poles you and your pony demolished instead of tutting as he is taking a while. He'd rather be at home on his Wii but his horsey mum asked him for help and he can't say no....

The young girl running from ring to ring with entries and rosettes??? Instead of galloping towards her screaming for her to move remember, she too would be competing but she offered to help instead.

The secretary taking the entries is not an idiot just because you decide to call your heinz 57 no particular breeding pony 'Princess Aurora Borealis Z' or 'Serendippitydoodahday' and she asks you how to spell that!!

The judge who you think does not like your cob...try and remember that it may be the only cob she see's all day as she gets no lunch break!

A thank you at the end of the day goes a long way!

Hope the weather is good and you don't get too many whinging competitors - ps watch out for the lead rein and first ridden mums - they can be savage!

Whenever I have been to well run event or show I always, always take the time to walk up the secretary's tent/box to say thank you.

And they always look flustered and embarrassed as if I am the only one to do so.

I have helped organise many a show and event - and I know only too well what a thankless task it is!

I take my hat off to all of you who make our outings fun :D

those are good rules. We had our sj last month and I must admit that quite a few people came up and thanked me afterwards. Some shouted thanks on their way past on their horse. Some even helped dismatle the jumps :D It made all the difference really.

Thanks all, it is nice to know that so many others are also daft enough to give up their time and energy. :D I have just completed the marathon tack cleaning session required for tomorrow
There may be a show report tomorrow, after I have brought the mare home and then gone back to undo the show ground and put it all away again :)

So true:D My friend and I organised a local pc show for 2 years and helped out with many more. There were some lovely moments but my goodness the above quote rings true:D

Love this post!

We are seriously considering writing a book about all the ridiculous questions/comments/insults we get. My favourite two at the moment are 'which ring is the show -jumping in?' Try the ring over there with all the coloured jumps in and 'how do I know what the photographer looks like?' she is the lady in the ring with the large camera slung round her neck - all answered without a trace of sarcasm in my voice.

My big moan at the moment is about all the people who don't bother to ring for their dressage times. Surely not difficult on a Friday eve to ring between six and seven as stipulated in the schedule? Very few people are apologetic when they do finally ring, I have had such gems as 'but I went out to the pub' lucky you and what about a mobile or even a payphone in the pub? 'I knew you wouldn't mind if I rang at five to eight on Saturday morning' and ' I thought you would ring me with the times' Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

But we do appreciate it when people come and thank us and let us know they have enjoyed themselves, even if we do look a bit shocked they have bothered!

I may go up and watch. The person I have provisionally agreed to allow to ride my equine while I'm out of action is going and I'd like to spy and make sure she's not going to be broken by him beforehand :)

I shall look out for you in equitation!

Ooh, I feel like a detective...

I shall no doubt be the muppet making a right hash of it!
