Please may I have some opinions on this?

I made this video, it's my second ever attempt with this software... Think I'm improving a bit! What do you guys think of it/ how can I improve?

I really liked it. I can't comment on sound, as I always mute youtube vids, but I liked the visuals.

What was the order of clips? Was it chronological? What seemed a little odd to me was the two falls one after the other seemed a little out of place?

Oh my, I am so sorry. I have to say that I think 99.9% of HHO'ers would never dare put a video on here (myself included) as someone will always try to bring it down. I guess a lot of it is down to jealousy. Such a shame.

I tell you, I get enough comments in real life, as we are bitless, barefoot and bareback - can you imagine a video of that on here, hahahaha !! ;)

It fits in with the video audio, the first fall was end of last season where Al got wiped out by a tree because Reg is HUGE and and she forgot. So took an unfortunate line and a tree branch got her as they went over... Gutted, because they would have come 2nd or so!! Other fall is SJ, where no was said a bit too quickly for sticky bum action!

It's mostly chronological, but is more a compilation... There's a chronological one on her channel which shows how much hard work it took to get here. This was more moments which meant a lot (so first Novice combinations, first sub-30 dressage, first 9, first clear SJ round...) :)

I watched the video in awe, lolo, please tell your sister I think she is a wonderful rider, and clearly has a fantastic bond with the horse. I actually thought she looked like a professional. Look a team to watch for the future. Please don't pay any attention to 'sofa experts' who think they know everything.

The horse world infuriates me at times!!
Good video too ;)

I do hope I wasn't taken as a meany, just commenting on what I can see from my iPhone screen! But nothing bad, and as mentioned a super team.

She's a lovely rider with soft hands. I'd be happy to let her have a sit on Fig; she knows the score with sensitive ex racers :)

Funnily enough I often post videos and photos and only once have I ever been treated without manners and a degree of respect (not as a rider of any decency but as a human being with feelings), but then I mostly post in C&T.

I have posted these in TR before though - this is what socking a horse in the mouth looks like:

Wish he'd been bitless in them :D He's already unshod, but I think bareback would've been me on the floor :p

Well .... what is it with some of us on here at the moment :o

I thought it was a lovely video again the shakyness if the only things i could think to improve on :) The jockey is a lot braver than me and look like a cracking team !

Try not to take comments to hearty lovely i think there is something going round at the moment :)

Im sorry i laughed at the " OH ****" face on the first one :D

JFTD, love the face in the first one! A real "bo!!locks!" moment :D

(first time Reg did a ditch he fell in it, then fell in it again. We all did wonder at his eventing potential then!)

Oh they're there to be laughed at. Even I laugh at them, in between cringes.

Don't worry Anty - 18 months down the line and he's a cracking wee jumper despite his jockey (who manages to avoid clinging on to his mouth for dear life these days too). Amazing he survived, I know

He looks like a giant rabbit! :D :D

goddamit, you mean some unscrupulous dealer sold me a PB rabbit instead of a highland pony?

My cob used to stand in shallow ditches - just casually put a foot in it as he canters through  It's how the cool horses deal with these things :D

I'm not trying to thread hijack, btw, just add a little "perspective".

JFTD - I love your pics, always make me smile, and you always look like you are having such FUN !!! Tbh, Shy can be a Pocket Rocket, and his massive mane does come in very useful. And bareback does help with cellulite.

No, I appreciate it tbh. Makes me less angry!

Al is a typical teenager in many ways but luckily only takes things to heart when she knows they know her. So although she was upset, it didn't hurt as it could have if she wasn't quite so lucky to be surrounded by people who tell it to her straight every day!

If in doubt grab some mane and hold on tight  my theology :D

Just take the comment about him being a schoolmaster as a compliment. Al has done such a good job he looks like he simply carries the jockey round! Don't take the negative comments to heart (easier said than done in my experience), anybody worth their salt would never make downright rude comments like those. FWIW having followed your story for the last 3 years it is clear what a fab job Al has done.

Shy is so much like my old cob it's unreal. We used to xc like this:

There's videos of that on yt too - but with friends on them too so I shan't post the link on here.

hahahaha !!! LOVE that mane ;)

I would never DARE put a video on here though - this thread, one by Laura Wheeler, the one that went viral over to the USA last month...... I am sure there are loads.

OP I liked the vid, esp the first shot where she comes over the x country jump towards the camera. I didn 't have my sound on so can't comment on the audio.

Tell your sis that I wish I was a quarter of the rider she is. It IS an amazing achievement to do what she has done and I think the falls in the vid highlight how brave and gutsy she is.

Also I love your grey...my pony is that colour but not a TB.

I'm of the "bite me" opinion - I know my own faults well enough so there's not much worse can be said to me. And so you know I'm not all talk and no trousers (is that an expression or am I being peculiar?) this has the raw clip of that ditch in here...

Personally I thought it was a bit tacky, you sat on a school master and yanked it in the mouth a lot :(
Just my opinion :)

How on earth did you think that horse was a schoolmaster? it's obviously an exracer who has been reschooled. And where is the yanking? I saw a rider competant enough to slip the reins when needed. And I defy anyone to do a round of cross country and not slightly sock at some stages on a dodgy stride. It's really easy to sit and criticise, post up a video of your riding and put us to shame so!

If you really want a video crit, in our film course they taught us a few simple things. i agree with the comment about removing the cheesy quote, sometimes it works, but in this case it doesn't, it's tool long and distracting. Also I'd imagine its been a very eventful training experience for you and the video doesn't do that enough justice. There's a great video (can't find link now, but it's been on here!) where a girl has a difficult unrideable horse, ends up doing showing, and then can ride again. That really gets across the challenges she faced. I know its dramatic video footage anyways, but the format of the video works well, you can really see her journey. Sometimes whats obvious to you doesn't translate across to strangers. so you need to storyboard or plot out the video better or have text screen explaining why moments are good/bad. I have an exracer myself so I completely appreciate the improvements you made!

Also check out your compression settings. Video is extremely pixellated, whats your original footage like? Is something going haywire when you are compressing for upload?

Just wanted to say I think you ride him really well :) And I love how you talk to him all the way to the fences, it all seemed calm and easy going :)

It's very pixellated because the camera we had last year was terrible (as in a million years old terrible!). Mum got given an amazing new one which works really well and so my next video will be of that footage, and hopefully of the little grey mare :D (another ex-racer, but not as forgiving and kind as Reg... She likes giving flying lessons!).

Thank you for the CC :) I will keep posting them as I go (one every 6/8 weeks or so, it takes me forever to get footage together). I'm hoping to get more footage of them interacting as well as the riding to put in... I understand the quotes thing totally, it's a montage that I listened to incessantly through my exams last summer so wanted to combine it a bit :)

This is my next song :D

I love your communications with the horse!

we went to an open hunter trials yesterday and we could hear one of the riders talking to his horse all the way round one field and his comments were literally 'you are a beauty! you are a little superstar and even though these are the biggest jumps we will do, we can do them. you are the best horse i have ever ridden, you have the best jump. this is a big jump but we can do it!
He was amazingly sweet! I was fairly hormonal and was nearly in tears watching him jump round. And he was a middle aged man, was so sweet hearing him chat away to his horse, and they looked like such a happy pair!!

I was very hormonal and he reduced me to tears!

Ack that's kind of you to say, but I really just point, hold on and hope - he's a nice lad and does all the work for me. I reckon the incessant talking is for my own benefit too :o

eta - paddi, how lovely, he sounds fabulous :)

Hat off to you JFTD....you stuck really well. Not easy jumping a pony with shorter legs..... My hipo jumps like a stag too but his owner enjoys to be nearer the ground...2ft my limit!
