Rug stolen off a horse in the field over last night in the freezing weather.

Please Please Please mark your rugs clearly in a contrasting colour with a postcode or a freeze mark if you want to keep them on your horse.

I know they look nice but they all get covered in mud and you know what in the end, so please paint them.

Not where there's money to be made, but they couldn't do it if everybody marked and people didn't buy suspiciously cheap rugs!

Rugs round here have been nicked recently even with the postcode painted on in HUGE white letters. Grrrrrrrr

THey do that in the hope you put nice shiny new rugs on without marking them 1st........then they nick those too.

I use whatever's in the barn that isn't too rusted to take the top off !!!! Have found that Hammerite is quite good!! and I have used light shades of shed and fence paint, but that fades quickly. Usually have to retouch the mark after washing.

There are a couple of companies that do this sort of thing posh! I think ones does fluorescent markers and anothe does a template for painting.

PS have also put my postcode on the trailer roof in foot high lettering. I think the police are negotiating with something called Skywatch, a system of alerting thousands of private flyers to look out for trailers or lorries stolen that are roof post marked.

There are also some schemes where you can place an old mobile phone with a SIM card in your trailer or lorry on silent, then you can pay pence to check where it is by GPS at any time!! Has a very good accuracy in finding it!
