I received the following text from a friend this morning: There have been 3 sightings of 2 suspicious men with eastern european accents photographing local horses. This could be a steal to order gang. The men have been seen at shows, events and even in a horse owners field taking pics. They have been seen in a white van reg N253 XAJ (NB: these are believed to be false plates - these plates belong to a cream ford minibus, which is not involved in stealing horses - read more about this number plate) and red Land Cruiser. Police are treating this as suspicious so please contact them urgently if you see anything. Please pass on this text.

I seem to remember reading something about this on the forum a week or so ago. However, whilst in my local tack shop near Cuckfield, West Sussex, this morning, they were discussing it as customers had all been receiving texts, so they rang the local police to confirm the story. They said these vehicles had been seen in this area in the last few days and to contact them immediately on their non-emergency number.

I'm not belittling this as I am sure its founded in truth somewhere along the line, but everyone, all over the country seem to be getting these text messages. These guys must have a tardis or something. I had a text message from a friend who lives in cheshire about it - I live in Kent. Then the same message from another friend who is in the Gloucestershire.....

Ha ha time travellers in a white van!

I got this text too.

Surely if the police have the reg no they can trace where these people live? Or is the van stolen?

They might be able to check where they live - if they have a 'fixed abode' but they won't be able to track where they are travelling to.

By god these guys get around even more than I thought - I've got a couple of useless old nags if they are interested (only joking....I think)

Yeah I got it too...... and now getting emails with the same message..... in West Yorkshire. It is a good reminder for people to be vigilant and to take notice of what is going on around the fields/stables which to be honest I was guilty of not taking much notice until these text messages started!!

I feel left out I've not had any texts! If they have the reg number then surely they can see who it's registered to?! Esp if it's insured??

Mind did have a look on DVLA website, the registration isnt made up and its still on te road as tax ot due till next feb!!!
The white van is a ford.

Got the message at about 11 at night, wanted to go spend the night with his lordship!! just in case!!

Thanks goodness it's not just us getting these messages from "friends" all over the country. If we were to believe them all, they've been in Cornwall at the same time as being in Yorkshire - as you suggest a "Tardis"?????
