Please recommend me a bit!

Hello I have a 15.1hh cob who I mainly hack. He is a brilliantly behaved hack but he can become quite strong and he leans on my hands quite a lot. He is currently ridden in a happy mouth Pelham. I had him in a Waterford snaffle before this but this but found it more difficult to stop him. I would also prefer a bit with a warmer metal mouthpiece if possible. Any suggestions or advice welcome! Thank you.
 
Schooling will help -doesn't have to be in an arena, can be on a hack -but whatever bit you use, without maintaining a certain level of discipline/respect, he will continue to get stronger.
 
Thanks for your comment. To be fair to him he is quite a well schooled horse it's just when he gets excited and keen he becomes stronger. I'll try things like shoulder in when he's on a mission and see if that helps.
 
Does he put his head up or down? I'm rubbish with bitting but I would personally try a Ns universal with a link in the middle or a plain old dutch gag with a link. You could try any bit in copper or sweet iron to be "warmer".

Anything with a link will help with him taking hold of the bit. Anything with poll pressure will lower his head.
 
Fair enough! I know if our hunters have been doing a lot of roadwork, , they start to feel a bit stiff and "planky"
If you are having reasonable success with the Pelham and he liked the Waterford mouthpiece of his snaffle, you could maybe try a Waterford Pelham :-)
 
He is very much head down and leans on me and I think the Pelham doesn't help with the poll pressure and might encourage him to do this further. Ive have heard really good things about NS bits I might have to give them a ring and see what they say. Thanks for your suggestion.
