I've decided I'd like to switch our two dogs (lurcher and whippet) onto a meaty diet but I haven't a clue where to start. Can anyone recommend a book or somewhere online where I can easily find a good starter diet for my two? Many thanks to anyone who can help. Cheers, Liz. :)

Anything by Dr Ian Billinghurst. There's an informative sticky to ask questions at the top of this board and plenty of Yahoo groups etc.

Oooooh thanks! Didn't see the Sticky thread. :)

I've been looking on Amazon and all the books I've seen recommended elsewhere on this subject seem quite old. Suggested so far: Raw Meaty Bones: Promote Health, by Tom Lonsdale (Paperback) printed 2001; Dr. Pitcairn's Complete Guide to Natural Health for Dogs & Cats, by Richard H. Pitcairn (Paperback) printed 2005; The Holistic Guide for a Healthy Dog, (A Howell Reference Books) by Wendy Volhard (Paperback) printed 2000; The Complete Herbal Handbook for the Dog and Cat, by Juliette de Bairacli Levy (Paperback) printed 1991.

Is there anything more up-to-date out there?

The Complete Handbook For Dog And Stable is a classic and one I wouldnt lend anyone. The author was promoting the raw or barf diet long before any of us were born.

The Complete Herbal Handbook for the Dog and Cat, by Juliette de Bairacli Levy is as old as the hills and has had many reprints - I think that says it all - she lived with Bedouin tribes in the desert and kept her prizewinning Afghan hounds as close to nature as possible, and that was decades ago - if it worked then, it works now :)
