i am an emotional wreck . my beautiful mare has a tear on her ddft but has been doing ok on small paddock rest for the last 4 weeks due to be rescanned soon. over the last day or 2 she has become more lame on that leg really struggling to turn and i am convinced she has damaged it and will need to be pts. yesterday she rolled we think in her small 12 x 12 area and brought the fence down ending up doing goodness knows what in the big field. i have cried for the last 12 hours waiting for the vet today expecting the worst outcome. however she thinks its a foot abscess as hot foot strong pulse and farrier now on way to remove shoe and look. i am emotionally drained having expected the worst but now more hopeful but just wondering why we put ourselves through it. had assumed it was her tendon so will be so relieved

Oh bless you :(

This happened to me recently too. Wally went lame, had vet out, nothing obvious. Paddock rest for 3 weeks. Still lame.
Farrier finally found abcess. All sorted and sound again :)

They can look like they are at deaths door with an abcess or they can look like they have broken a leg!

Fingers crossed that is what it is!

(((((((((((hugs)))))))))))) you realy are having a time of it at the mo arn't you. I know how you feel. After all I went through with Lucy. Now I'm just so paranoid something is wrong with Herbie all the time. I keep thinking he's lame when he's not and I keep thinking he's getting the masses on the base of his neck that Lucy had with her illness. Although I know the chances of him having the same illness as Lucy had are rediculas. I still worry all the time. But then I have a day like yesterday when we had a fab day at a show. Herbs was so well behaved and we got a 1st and a 2nd.
It realy makes it all worth while.
I have everything crossed for you and hope your horse just has an abcess. Lucy had two very bad foot abcesses over the twelve years I had her both times she was so lame the vet thought she may have broken her leg untill we found the abcess.

Oh hugs :( I do understand what you are going through. Mine was *slightly* unlevel 2.5 weeks ago and is now so lame she can barely shuffle a few feet. I'm demented with worry so can VERY much sympathise with your predicament. Fingers crossed it all turns out OK for you.

Fingers crossed for an abcess. My old man gets 3 or 4 a year, although we havent had one this yer yet *touches wood* first clear year in about 7! lol! (tried everything to prevent them with no luck)
Every single one he gets he stands with his leg in the air (literally) and he is hopping, and i mean hopping lame! I know deep down its just an abcess but I still hold my breathe till the farrier has been out and actually found it as he really does look like he's broken a leg with his. So yes as the vet says they can be extremely painful but I think with my old boy you have to throw a bit of 'wuss' into the equation (sp) :D
