Following on from the news yesterday about the horrific tragedy of a five-year-old boy being strangled to death by an electric car window ...... PLEASE never be tempted to leave the keys in the ignition whilst your children are in the car. In this particular case it was reported that the engine was left running as well. This poor Mum must be going through absolute Hell now - my heart goes out to her - so PLEASE think of her and her loss whenever you are tempted to say to yourself 'It's only for a few seconds' ..... because that is all it took.

Sorry if this sounds a bit like a sermon but I'm a Mum and a Granny and I'd hate it to happen to anyone.

Forget please remove your keys - please don't let your children use your car as a playroom! I understand the children were playing in the car outside the house - what would have happened if the hand brake had come off and the car had rolled into traffic - or onto the pavement and squashed someone? or if the engine was running and it had been knocked into gear

Cars are NOT extra playrooms for children.

Thoughts are with the family and friends.

I've caught my fingers in the electric windows before, really hurt. It really is shocking the power such a small little motor can have.

Years ago my mums mate stupidly left her son in the car when she nipped back in to grab something she forgot, leaving the engine on. Boy then locked him self in car, put it into reverse and reversed across the street and into the front of neighbors house!! He was only 7 but slid down to reach the pedals!

Thankfully they lived in a quite residential street.

When I nip to the supermarket to get lunch I see loads of kids just sitting in cars, possibly the youngest looked about 5ish. I am soon going to start taking down reg numbers though and going to security about it as I remember my mum once did that to me and locked the car and we couldn't get out for some reason - even teh front doors didn't open!

It is a complete tragedy for this family - but I don't know why people do things like this, there have been enough reports through the years of awful accidents like these, I don't know why people are not more aware.

My thoughts are with his family.
I do not have kids but I would not even leave my kids in the car let alone just make sure i took the keys out first!

An old neighbour of mine used to let her little boy (then aged 4) sit on her knee whilst driving up our street (cul de sac) and let him steer up the road and onto the drive.

They had an escort cabriolet.

One day in the summer the car was let on the drive with the roof down and key in ignition whilst they were gardening in the back garden - little lad managed to climb in, start the car and get the handbrake off- car rolled backwards of sloping drive and whilst he was grappling with the steering wheel ran into a parked Merc on the opposite side of the road.

Makes you shudder to think what could have happened, especially if the car had been an automatic

Can't believe the mother was so stupid

a muppet (a pensioner not some young bloke!) in my mothers cul-de-sac lets all the kids climb onto his car bonnet and hold on then drives off down the street
