Well sadly the new horse at the yard broke down the post and rail fence today and consequently Seren has been on the most lush grazing you could get. What with the heavy rain last night and sun today its simply disastrous.
To say I am gutted in an understatement.
Vet has been out, given ACP and a pain killer but please keep everything crossed that she will be ok. I am in pieces. Such a bad time too, I have exams to revise for and consequently managed none tonight as a result, only just got home.
Some of you may know that Seren already has bad rotation and has been miraculously sound, so this is such a worry.
Anyway, sorry for rambling, please send your prayers Seren's way, I would really appreciate it.
Thanks x

Poor you and poor Seren. This is the last thing you both need :( :( :( :(
sending loads of (((((((((vibes))))))))) for Seren and ((((((((hugs)))))) for you. You are doing all you can. I hope she is ok.

Big thanks to you all, I know you guys are so great for support, I am just so worried. She is in tonight with no feed, so I hope that the next few days transpire to be ok, but I am terribly worried given her history and that foot of hers :(
Thanks again x

thankyou but its a few months too late... :( he was pts he just couldn't get though it.. :(

i am sure that you will get throught it though i dont want to scare you .. :) give her a ig hug and lots of TLC xxx

Oh my, I am so very sorry, I really am, I feel stupid, I will be giving her all the tlc she deserves, she really is the best horse, my horse of a lifetime. I am so sorry you lost your boy, it really is such a terrible disease xxx

Oh sh!t :(

Have you got pads on her feet, the deep shavings down and lots of soaked hay? Sorry, probably silly questions.

Everything tightly crossed hun.

Hey hun, vet said no food for the night, poor thing :( she is on a shavings bed with rubber mats, she already wears open toe heartbars so vet said she has the right support she needs at the moment.
Thanks for support xx

All fingers and toes crossed for her. You must be seriously unimpressed. I hope she's ok xx

Yes, I was angry but this horse is an animal after all, she is back in another field on her own now, cant risk her doing this to my girl again or my friends mare who is colic prone and has also had laminitis herself, no rotation in her mare thankfully.
Seren would have sooner starved to death in that field then broken down the fence bless her.
Sadly some horses are rather a bit of a liability, this mare is, but she is just a horse, I cannot blame her really :(
I just pray she will be ok xx

Hate to be a pain, but check again with the vet re. no feed tonight.

We went into it all in quite some depth when LL had a bad attack. The concensus of opinion was soaked hay (soaked min of twelve hours admittedly) was the way to help reduce the stress that was going through the body, and that starvation would increase the stress.

I did ask her about hay but she said no, because she said of risk of colic also because the grass was so long and lush in that field. She said a colic case would go without food and we needed to treat her like this. I have hay galore at the yard as she is fed it all year round but vet said strictly no food as she has had enough calories for one day. I will be down very very early to give hay.
I did think she would be allowed hay and was going to give her some but vet said a definite no in this case no...

Have you put some hay to soak for the morning?

Hot choccy :)

Yes, we are ready to go for the morning with soaked hay :)

I was just off to get a hot choccy. It has been the most hideous day. I had an exam first thing, almost passed out I felt so stressed, never been that bad before! And then this at 5pm when I got to yard. An early night for me, but first stop a hot choccy, then shower, then bed, thanks again hun x

Big vibes for Seren and big hugs for you. Let us all know how she in the morning, will keep everything crossed for her being ok, apart from hungry :p

Hope you manage to get some sleep tonight x

So did she actually get a laminitis bout from breaking out this time or are you pre-empting it by treating just incase?
Hoping its the latter and tomorrow brings good news?
