Please send positive vibes - possible colic

The vet just called; its sand impaction colic; they have given some sedation and are going to come back at around 4pm to see how she is doing. I asked about prognosis and the vet said it depends on what damage the impaction has caused. Feeling rather worried.
Daves Mam will have a post on here somewhere after Dave's battle with sand colic. He's alive & kicking now so keeping everything crossed for you xx

Dave had sand colic last year. He was sedated & tubed with Epsom Salts. This seemed to do the trick & he did some rather explosive poos, but the next day he went downhill again, very poorly pony. Vet came & tubed again, but still not picking up or even remotely interested in food.
He ended up in the vets' for 4 nights being tubed with Psyllium & Epsom salts, along with IV fluids. He made a dramatic improvement even over the first night.
I hope your pony is feeling better soon, it was a horrible thing for Dave.
He now has 1 week of Psyllium every month to keep on top of it.

I just spoke with the yard owner, the vets phone signal wasn't great and she advised she there wasn't any sign of impaction but there was a lot of sand in her poo. The vet has given her a lot of fluids and is going to come back this afternoon to flush her through again. The vet advised that surgery isn't an option for sand colic, its a case of flushing through with fluids.

I have just come back from the yard, the vet came out for a second time and flushed her through again. She appeared quite bright when the sedation wore off and was looking for food. The vet has advised that they symptoms could occur again over the next two days; the yard have arranged for a staff member to sleep on site tonight and the vet is going to liaise with them about the support she will need tonight. I will go back up if the vet needs to be called out again. No food overnight and small handfuls of hay from tomorrow morning. The vet will start treating her with Psyllium in a couple of weeks; he says he likes to have a break between the colic and starting the treatment. Fingers crossed she is ok for the next couple of days. I've not seen sand colic before but the yard I am usually is on a clay based rather than sandy soil.

Oh goodness I’m sorry what a stressful day! Glad she’s on the mend now, yes very dramatic way of getting out of being ridden!!
