Please send positive vibes - possible colic

I wonder if the sand built up from elsewhere. In any case, it's great that so much came out. Sending healing and comfortable vibes to you and your lovely mare.

Thank you all for your kind messages, the person of the yard has messaged me to say she seems happy and has sent a photograph of her with pricked ears looking out of her stable, probably wondering where her food is!
This seems promising, hopefully the treatment will get everything out her system and she'll be able to eat soon! Love to her, you and your amazing yard staff!

Just caught up with this thread- sorry you have had a worrying time and hope she is feeling much better today

Thank you she was fine overnight, the vet wants her to have Psyllium for two to three weeks but he likes to have a break before giving it. The member of the yard on the staff was very good and send me an update last thing and first thing this morning. I was considering her staying on the yard a bit longer than the initial rehab period as she is very settled there, but I am now a bit worried about her being on sandy soil if she is predisposed to this. She will be staying until mid January anyway but I would potentially like her to stay there until the spring. I have done a lot of reading about sand colic since yesterday lunchtime!

Dave had sand colic last year. He was sedated & tubed with Epsom Salts. This seemed to do the trick & he did some rather explosive poos, but the next day he went downhill again, very poorly pony. Vet came & tubed again, but still not picking up or even remotely interested in food.
He ended up in the vets' for 4 nights being tubed with Psyllium & Epsom salts, along with IV fluids. He made a dramatic improvement even over the first night.
I hope your pony is feeling better soon, it was a horrible thing for Dave.
He now has 1 week of Psyllium every month to keep on top of it.
What dose of pysyllium do you give to Dave please?
OP i hope things are looking good for your mare, yard sound very good.

He has a 40g scoop of pelleted psyllium & bentonite every day for the first 7 days of each month. The packet says twice a day, but I struggle to get him to eat it twice a day.

Hi I popped out to see her at lunchtime and she is back out on grass first the first time today, the vet advised she could have a couple of hours out. When I got there she totally ignored me and carried on eating! She seems well in herself and it has been forty eight hours since the initial symptoms were observed so hopefully she will be ok. The horses are all being turned out over Christmas; she is going in a small field with longer grass so there is less risk of her eating shorter pieces of grass closer to the ground. She is going to need pysyllium; has anyone got a particular brand they recommend. I have read that some people buy an unbranded version on ebay as this is cheaper than some of the branded products.

I use Hestevard Colonaid, as Dave WILL NOT eat anything with normal psyllium, the texture is vile. It's pelleted & doesn't turn to jelly until it's been eaten.
It's pricey, but a tub at £90 lasted me nearly a year.
