Hey guys!

Just an update on what is going on over here. My ponio recently tore off a wart from his boy bits (he has sarcoids on them which the vet recommended we don't remove as they've never bother him before and the operation would be more traumatic for him than just keeping them), the wound was about 1cm and a half in diameter and half a centimetre deep. Anyway, we got the vet out and she said she couldn't stitch it - she did however clean it and gave us antiseptic cream to apply 4 times a day as well as that he needs to go out in a paddock with no mud/dust that can get into the wound and he needs to be kept quiet (as she didn't want him tearing off the scab).

It seemed to be going well for a couple of days, the swelling went down a bit (though he still couldn't pull it into the sheath). It's been a bit more than a week now and we've had the vet out again about 3 days ago - it seems that the wound got infected despite our best efforts and lots of cream and disgusted looks (coming from both ponio and I). She's given him a full course of antibiotics to try and beat the infection and we're continuing keeping it clean.

If the infection doesn't get better ponio will completely loose his boy bits (he doesn't use them for anything but I'm worrying about the little fella).

I feel so bad for him :(. Hate seeing him like this!

Please send positive vibes for his recovery!

Here are some photos of my little boy <3. He's my absolute pride and joy

He is also an amazing EM dressage horse but I doubt we'll be able to ride team selections in February (if he has to be amputated). Just hoping he gets better though :(

Sorry for the pity party :( - but my boy's injury has really gotten to me (no matter how ridiculous it's location may be)

Poor, poor boy! I'm guessing that it's hot and you also have to keep the flies off his sore part as well... :(

Fingers crossed that it starts to improve and he doesn't need to have the op.

Try not to panic and don't focus on where the wound is :) The appropriate antibiotics are more than capable of clearing up infections. Your boy should be right as rain in a few weeks.

It is hot and the flies are a bother :(. Can't apply fly spray anywhere near his wound (obvious reasons), so we're soaking him in shoo fly and burning tabard candles in the barn (which is also a mission since we had to find a safe place to put them where they wouldn't be in danger of lighting anything else and where the horses couldn't reach them. The barn is mostly fly free now but the fly spray also needs to be applied regularly. Basically it's hard work for such a little injury :(

Thanx so much you guys :(! On my way to go and see him right now! He's been on the ABs for 3 days now and no changes in his condition. I'm going to speak to the barn owner and maybe get another vet out for a second opinion on what to do

Aww poor man :( I hope he improves soon *sending hugs*

Equisalve is great as a barrier, I also have a zinc spray that keeps dirt out and helps to heal too, might be worth having a chat with the vet about something similar. I've used sudacream too - not sure what you can ge in SA!

I'm going out to see him again in a few minutes :p. Was thinking about taking a photo too (not to be strange), but to have a record of progress (so that I can compare to see if swelling has gone up or down for sure). I hope that doesn't make me sound like some kind of horse rapist

Will post the photo of ouchie when I get home
