She's getting more and more chestnut fleabites now (if she keeps going, she'll eventually go back to chestnut :p ;) ).

Is the sire homozygous (two copies of grey gene) or heterozygous (one copy) for grey?

If he has sired non-grey horses, then he only has one copy of grey.

If the sire has two grey genes, your foal will grey out. If he has one copy, then your foal has a 50% chance of greying out.

Look out for grey hairs growing around your foal's eyes, as this is often the first area to grey out. :)

Sire isn't homozygous but long line of greys on sires side. Dam has bred coloured, chestnut. But just looking at legs putting me thinking mite turn grey. Just really wondering. Thanks a million

It's 50/50 then. She's lovely whether she greys out or not. :)

I should add, that my girl was very fast to grey out (pure white as a two year old) and that many horses are much slower.

Thanks, but she isn't for keeping. She's my dads I'm just enjoying her while we have her. Just curious about her. She's so good.

We had a chestnut fily out of chestnut and white skew mum , by an RID grey sire. She greyed out to a lovely dappled grey . After foal coat she greyed around the eyes, yet vet had her passported as chestnut.

That's what I was thinking. She looks normal chestnut but then legs look unusual colour. I'm thinking she will grey out. Only time will tell. But shed my das and he's not keeping her. So just wondering. She's a wee cutie no matter what colour, thinking of changing pet name to lady ad shes so lady like.

Cant upload pics from my phine but my boy started chestnut-steel grey-grey roan and now at nearly 5 is more of a rose grey! Basically he jst cant make his mind up and changes colour with the wind! His head was the 1st to grey out though

Daughters youngster is passported as a chestnut with 4 white sock and a blaze. Not much sign of any of it now unless you look really closely at his face to see the blaze and he was 4 last month. He is a strange mix of grey and cream  Has a lovely mane and tail which is a mix of chestnut, grey and black

My chestnut pony is registered as a grey I guess because the breeder assumed her would grey out and got it wrong. We bred 5 arabs, all born chestnut and all turned grey :)

The legs on baby are very dark, I'd say that means definitely greying out, grey foals are usually born a richer adult colour rather than the usual paler coat, chestnuts that don't grey tend to have almost white legs at birth. They often start with the greying round the eyes as foals and look like they have goggles but not always.

That's baby photo, 2 years old and 4 years old. She's now at 14 years old almost pure white with some flea bitten markings.

I have one who was born bay roan with two white stockings and a blaze. Is now whiter than white with pink skin, barring her eyes which have black skin round them :)

I reckon yours will turn grey, as the colour of her legs look very similar to mine that turned grey.

Shes lovely regardless of colour:D

This is my mare with her first foal many many years ago. Mama as you can see is grey, as was the sire. I first met the foal as a 5 year old, by which time he was the same colour as his dam in the photo below, only with more dapples. Dam was almost identical as a foal, and was 4 in the photo. She is now 20 and almost white, but with a darker mane and tail and chestnut freckles. Her dam was chestnut, sire grey.

Yeah she's going to be grey.
Grey hairs sides of tail as well and when rubbing coat grey through bits. Dark dark grey.

Thanks everyone
