Please show me your best winter jackets..and are they really warm & waterproof!

I have a Helly Hansen Aden long jacket (actually above the knee) and it's waterproof like nothing else. It's the thicker, more insulated version but is still slimline and looks smart. Would completely recommend it to anyone, so warm and toasty as well. I have it in the chocolate colour.

I'll second steering clear of equestrian brands - I have a North Face 3 in 1 jacket with a zip out fleece - it's really warm and waterproof. It survived Download Festival when it chucked it down about two days in a row - I was still bone dry! It's fine for riding in as fairly short - only downside is I need waterproof trousers as well.

we have a selection of horsey and none horsey brand jackets and TBH as long as you look after them they have all worn really well.

I have 2 really thick, 3/4 length coats for yard work, one is ANKY and one is Topshop parka style, and i use them for all grotty jobs, mucking out, swapping rugs, turnign out, stacking haylage etc etc so that my nice smart riding jackets arent taking a beating round the yard. I dont worry if these 2 get a bit muddy or dirty and i only wash them when they smell too horsey (cold wash with nikwax re-proofer as needed).

They get hung up to dry if they get soaked through and the mud and dirst brushed off regularly, zips oiled and any snags re stitched immediately. They are waterproof and warm without being as bulky as a full length waxed style coat.

then for riding, i have several jackets that are kept only for riding and teaching so they arent getting abuse and wear round the yeard, thus ensuring as i stay as comfy as possible whilst riding.

The thickets and most waterproof in terms of prolonged, heavy, rain is probably my wellensteyn winterzauber:

which is also fabulously warm even in minus temps.

I also have a lovely Belstaff jacket which is triple layered, windproof, waterproof and dust resistant, i think its one of the ladies motorcycle styles so very very tough indeed.

then between NMT and I we have 2 x pikeur winter jackets, one quilted, one none quilted and both do what they say on the tin-warm and waterproof. Have never had any problems with them leaking, but again all the jackets are cold washed adn re-proofed at least once a year to keep on top of things.

i do think the trick is have seperate yard work and riding jackets so that your riding jacket isnt getting wear and tear or being constantly soaked, you have time to dry them out seperately.

my fave is the wellensteyn, its just a smidge more comfy than the Belstaff and both are smart enough to wear out and about shoppign etc.

I got this dublin 3 in 1 a few years back and can't fault it its a waterproof coat in pink and black thats warm. It comes with a matching body warmer which I wear in the summer and it zips into the coat for when it's really cold. I love mine, wear it every day. it's still perfect (just got a bit of mint lick down the sleeve this morning, thanks shettie!) been in and out of the wash several times always comes out like new.
Google it as:
Dublin 3 in 1 pink and black coat or Dublin pink and black coat with body warmer.
Think mine cost about £40 from countrywide but it was on offer and not sure if they still do them but you can get them online.

I really like the Ariat Regent Parka, tho it doesn't look that warm and sure they wouldn't let me road test!(stable test!)..(2012 one, chocolate or charcoal and looks quite fitted & smart..not tent like..so I'd love to see what you have...& hear how you really rate them..and how you rate the fit/sizing..I'm 5'6" size 8-10 so need to be weatherproofed without being swamped or restricted..and what annoys you about them...

I have the Ariat Regent - it's very warm and not at all bulky, waterproof too and light to wear. Really like it, so much I've got the brown and the charcoal!
I wore it to the footy the other day in torrential rain and 4C, wearing jeans and polo shirt underneath and plenty warm enough.
Size wise if you're an 8 you probably need a S I'd think.

I'm wearing a lovely Dublin this year received this off my hubby for Christmas and I love it

I love it its so warm detachable hood nice deep slanted pockets about 4 pockets inside with lovely fleece too

I wouldn't be without my trusty cowboy hat (got in in Australia when I was 9, 10yrs on still best thing for keeping the rain off my head!), my musto long coat (covers from my chin to below my knees, I can stick umpteen layers under it, and it has massive lined pockets big enough for a loo roll, great when you have flu!) and my Ariat glaciers. :D

I can't believe nobody's mentioned the Jack Murphy coats yet! They seem really wide-spread up here, and with good reason. With a good sweater or two underneath, they're warm enough in winter, your can ride in them, they cover your legs when you ride, and they are seriously water-proof.

I also have the Ariat Regent (not for very long as it was my pre-Christmas present to myself :)) and love it. Very comfortable and very warm (so much so that you won't wear it riding if temps are above zero), with lots of pockets.
And it looked so nice that I took it to Britrany to visit the in-laws, where I survived a winter storm on the coast, nice and dry despite an hour's of lashing rain (my jeans were literally dripping when we got back from our walk).
I'm 5'7" and 145 pounds and the medium fits me well (I also have rather wide shoulders).

Google XM Yachting - i gave up on jackets designed for the equine market long ago! Very tough robust and well designed jackets :-)
