Signed - even though I am sobbing my heart out and feel that signing a petition is not much help for these poor defenceless animals against these sadistic, evil morons
[/ QUOTE ]
I think it's awful, but some of these people are so poor that it's the only way they can make a living. That makes it worse somehow IMO.
They may be poor but how the hell does that condone animals being skinned ALIVE from their tails downwards whilst being hung up? If you watched the video you will see clearly how one poor animal is writhing in pain suspended in the air trying to reach the cause of the pain, ie the person who is flaying it alive.
I cannot imagine the agony that animal is feeling as its whole fur and skin is literally pulled away from its muscles, flesh and bone. The end result is a living, breathing carcass. You can see it is in sheer agony. Its whole pelt is removed, even from its head. Leaving a torso, skull and eyes ( including lashes) that are just screaming out the words 'help'.
I am sorry if my post seems graphic but I think it has to be. I really cannot understand your reference to these people being poor at all, and that being in any way contributory to how these poor animals are being skinned and killed.
I don't think it makes it worse that these people are so poor for what it is worth either. Being poor has no correlation between cruelty to animals. I can think of plenty of POOR people in the UK and elsewhere but does that make them want to go out and start rounding up the cats and dogs in the neighbourhood and skin them for their pelts? The answer is no!
Fact is that the people responsible for this wanton cruelty day in day out have no regard whatsoever for animals. To them they are just a means to make money. No compassion involved at all. For ffs sake if our UK farmers treated their livestock in such a manner there would be bloody uproar. Farmers raise livestock to supply demand. They do it for a living, to earn a crust, to support themselves and their family.
However they treat their animals with respect ( in the main). Yes to them animals are a way of life, a means to an end.
The people who 'farm' animals for their fur as depicted in the video and link do so as a way of life too. A means to an end. To meet the demands of the fur trade. To earn money to pay to keep themselves and their family.
I don't have a problem with the UK farmers and the majority worldwide who farm animals for meat or whatever but who do so with compassion and with the welfare of the animal clearly in sight.
What does really annoy me and makes me physically sick though is individuals ( like in the above link) who have no compassion for animals at all. How anyone could do that to a living, breathing animal is beyond me. FFS if it really has to be done. Kill the bloody animal humanely first. Don't skin the poor thing alive!
Sorry I am really mad right now !!!
I so agree with you Staffs_oatcake72. There is absolutely no excuse. Like you say if it has to be done (I really can't see why) then at least kill the animal humanely first. How you managed to watch the footage I don't know. I know if I did I'd be physically sick and it would haunt me for a very long time. Even the pictures do that. The description on the website is bad enough.
It does make me feel helpless as to what to do to help. I guess raising awareness is the main thing. It is just so pointless. I know the SSPCA (Scottish version of RSPCA but slightly more useful) were heavily invloved in banning the import of it into the UK. This was only banned a short while ago (and I think it may not even be in force yet). I am really wary of anything that looks vaguely like it.
Suzy I watched the video ( or only part of it) so that I could truly comment about it having witnessed what had taken place. The killing I described earlier I had seen before in a video link on another website ( though I can't remember where and don't want to ). It killed me to watch, even the second time around and after the first one as the scenes were becoming more distressing I had to turn it off as I simply couldn't watch anymore.
It is fair to say those images are still haunting me a few days on and I have to keep putting it out of my mind so as not to feel nauseated or upset again.
But yes I echo your comments entirely and I too wish the vile trade could be banned completely and these people educated about a new moral way in which to earn a living but sadly I think this will never happen
I abhor this trade but cannot sign the peitition because of the wording. All I want is an end to the skinning of live animals; I do not feel we can tell an entire nation what animals it can use for fur while as a nation we still produce fur and leather goods. Sadly human life is very cheap in China; animal life even more so. If someone can find a petition that deals solely with the skinning of live animals, then I'll be more than happy to sign it. It may also be more realistic and more enforceable.
Already signed and I posted this petition link again as I didn't realise it was on here. I have emailed the Sun newspaper (MAYBE IF WE ALL CONTACTED THEM ABOUT IT THEY WOULD THINK IT REALLY WAS OF NATIONAL INTEREST, PLEASE email letters@the-sun.co.uk
(They usually back a good cause) Lets hope they get involved.
Please send the petition link to everyone you know.
I watched the first part of the video showing the skinning of the racoon, but had to turn it off at that point. I have never seen anything so horrific in my entire life and it haunts me and sees me near to tears, especially when you realise that 4 animals every minute of the day are being tortured in this way in China, but i am pleased I watched it as the stills really don't convey the real story and It has motivated me to tell everyone I think can help about it. The only thing that will stop the Chinese doing this is to hit them where it hurts IN THEIR WALLETS. PLEASE WILL EVERYONE BOYCOTT ALL CHINESE GOODS, NOT JUST FUR, ALSO LOBBY YOUR MP. IF WE CAN GET SANCTIONS AGAINST CHINA THIS MAY JUST STOP.
Sooty. I respect your views, but in the absence of a petition exclusively spelling out the LIVE bit. (Although I think it pretty much made it obvious thats what it meant) Would it really hurt to sign it? Surely better to sign and save the animals than not and let this continue on some technicality.
I have signed it and forwarded it to everyone on my mailing list.
I saw this on the news once, Heather Mills I think was calling for it to be stopped. I felt sick for weeks just thinking about it.
It is quite unbelievable what some people do.
I hate what they do to animals in China, they are absolutely barbaric out there

Of course being poor has something to do with it. In some places they're that poor they don't even have the basics. I'm not saying it's right at all, but it's not like they can just nip down the job centre and sign on the dole. They have no other way of supporting themselves and their families.
Don't forget that we have a radically different view on life than these people. ALL life in China is very cheap.
You mention this country too- a lot of the animal cruelty here is done by the poor people.

This in NO WAY excuses these people, NO WAY, NO HOW, NEVER!!! How can you just say ALL life is cheap in China, as though thats okay then? They must be made to stop or at least do it humanely. They don't even kill them AFTER they have been skinned FGS they just leave them to die an agonising death. ARE THEY TOO POOR TO DO THAT TOO??? Have you watched the video footage?? If not I suggest you do!!!
Even if they are poor, they are still human and all humans have the capability of feeling empathy for others and for other species and where you get the idea that mainly the poor abuse animals i'll never know, neglect through lack of education is a whole different thing to out and out torture and cruelty, which this is! Do you know they boil dogs and cats alive for food too? WHY ALIVE? ARE THEY TOO POOR TO SLAUGHTER THEM FIRST? Half the world is starving and there are counties as poor if not poorer than China who don't torture animals!!!
If the Chinese think these practices are acceptable and won't change then they must be made to through the only way they will listen and thats to hit their economy by refusing to trade with them.
fully agree with you popsicle, well said, the people of china and not just china but other countries too are so cruel, surely they can see the animal is in distress but obviously choose to ignore this, poverty cannot be blamed for this horrendous cruelty, poverty does not give rights, we dont accept the fur trade in this country (well i dont anyway) when its done humanely so why should these people be any different, it needs the government to sort it but we all know the government dont give a sh1t. im gonna shut up now cos im getting mad and could rant for england.
The government will listen if It means losing enough votes to lose an election, but they won't know if we don't tell them how we feel. We must get as many people signing the petition as we can, its the only way. Its upsetting to watch the vid clip, very upsetting, but it really drives the reality of it home and spurs you on to do something about it.
I know there's lots of other good causes in the world, such as Aids in Africa, Seal culling, Child abuse etc and I support these also, but this TORTURE of innocent animals without a voice really makes my blood boil and we as humans should hang our heads in shame if we allow it to continue.
