OK the farrier is on his way to discuss my cob's lack of keeping front shoes on about every two weeks loses a front.....bearing in mind I'm on clay soil which I find just sucks shoes off,he is unfit ,but slowly comeing back into work and on Natural Balance shoes on the advise of my vet........not that he has any problems,I think he would be better on a wide web shoe myself,he does have large feet,he also has to wear overeach boots in the field and this is the crunch.....I have alot of problems finding a boot to fit his big feet!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I use Woof Wear boots at the moment the large ones they do go up to XL but to big also this cob is very good at turning them up side down......can not find any rubber ones to fit and can't have him unshod....also do have a good farrier as he worked wonders with my last mare who's problems were endless,so don't want to change him and if he loses a shoe his there in 24 hours to sort......any ideas greatly would help as now pulling my hair out?

can't remember what make they are but in the past i've used those over reach boots composed of plastic 'petals' that overlap so they can't be inverted. they're fully adjustable because you just add/remove petals until you get the right fit. Always remember them because they make such a clatted when your jumping! Also could you possibly cahnge shoes back to ones with front clenches, i had mine on natural balance and was forever loosing them in the clay farrier changed them and no probs, ask your farrier if they would be suitable as he'll know more about feet than your vet. Finally have you tried NAF Hoof and Sole? its a purple liquid that you paint on twice a week or so and it strenghthens hooves. Its cheap and lasts months and has really helped some of the ex-racers I've had over the years.
 
Yes I think I'll look into the supplement,but he does rip them clean and TBH his feet are like rocks the boots will be sadly no good(have a pair from my TB mare lost in my garage somewhere!) as not long enough......thanks for your kind advise......now have to face the farrier at 3.30 pm........cannot wait!

is he turned out 24/7? if he's only out for a few hours during the day could you try taping the bulbs of his heel with tape or vet wrap or even invest in some cheap waterproof poultice boots that could be torn to shreds for the sake of his shoes?
 
His stabled at night and out at day......Yeah that's not a bad idea you know...........as the WW boots cost about £28 a pair and they do stay on, but after some time do deteriorate and as I said before can turn inside out....why thankies that is given me "food for thought".....Thankyou Zizz

Lex went through a stage like that when she was 4 - looking back it was probably because she had just started schooling and was struggling with her balance.

We put her on a biotin supplement and I painted her feet with Keratex for a while. She is still on biotin but I have given up with the Keratex.

Anyway, after about 6 months it just seemed to stop.
