Please stop me adopting greyhounds......

How did I miss this thread???
I'm with Chiffy, Planete and co on this one, so keep that sensible head on Brain dearest or I will hound ( urgh, terrible!) you by PM's .:)
( just for the moment at least , until you know everybody is happy and settled) xxx

I have a cunning plan now.... 😉

And no more puns please 😂😂😂

Totally missed this thread!!

The first time I ended up with 4 was a few years ago now and it goes something like this.

I had two boys already but Rufus was surrendered to rescue. I loved him on sight but thought he was too young for me at two years old so let him be rehomed elsewhere. In the meantime the beast of Bolton (Benji) was surrendered and it was evident he was NEVER going to get a home so he came home with me.

Five weeks later Rufus was returned and was a shadow of his former self!! He was already nervous but how anyone can do so much damage in five weeks is beyond me. Again, his aggression issues made it obvious he was never going to be rehomed either.

Rehoming two in the space of a few weeks can work and I’m sure you will make it work. Benji and Rufus always adored each other and I reckon it was the ‘new boy’ syndrome.

Go for it if you think it’s right for you :)

Deb you are clearly a rescuer after my own heart - any dog that I think will struggle to find a home comes home with me :) OK perhaps not for Ace, who was only 2 weeks in rescue kennels, but he was always going to be difficult to re-home because of his size. Marty had been in kennels for 7 months, I genuinely have no idea why!

Summer has been put on the FB page and I have indicated my interest :p IF my plan works out - fingers crossed :) x

SA having 4 dogs (or 5!) takes no more time than having 1 dog 😊Feeding takes 30 seconds (all fed at the same time) and walking takes an hour & a half regardless of how many you feed and walk 😊

I suppose :) I'm imagining life with 4+ SBTs rather than Greyhounds (who seem very docile...), which is probably rather different (and not an experience I would enjoy )

The lady I know who races greys has the black dogs PTS at the end of their careers, as she said just no one wants them - so there you go Marty, you lucky boy. She rehomes all the others.

if i was looking for a greyhound , black would be my choice, very sad that she feels they have to be put down rather than giving them a chance of a good home but at least they dont know what is happening... i have barely enough room for me and my 2 dogs in my tiny cottage and definitely cant get a greyhound in my car, so adopting a greyhound is just not possible, unless i win the lottery :):)

She is wrong - loads of people have black greyhounds, it is one of the most common colours and when I recently went on a Greyhound Trust walk there were 31 hounds of which about 1/2 (I would guess!) were black. She needs to make more effort!

I don't know how much effort she does make, she is nice enough but I would guess a pretty hard person, which may be an unjust assumption. I thought the blacks were hardest to rehome, but I know mothing about rehoming them tbh.

I know it’s always been said that Black Cats are the last to find homes. I guess that’s why we’ve had more than one black cat over the years.

There are a few pet Greyhounds around here, but I don’t think I’ve ever seen a black one thinking about it.

Black dogs are the hardest to rehome :( Id still try and convince that lady to try with the blacks to give them a chance though. Now that people are raising awareness about that fact it's changing!

It definitely has changed - there were 3 or 4 black dogs in kennels at the same time as Marty and all of them found homes very quickly

With us and cats, we will always look at the black ones first knowing they are overlooked. Am sure there are plenty of people like us that will always give the “underdog” the chance.
