This BL**DY weather is driving me mad, my field is like a lake, poor horsey cannot go out at all, luckilly I have a turn out area (looks like a mud pit) but it's better than nothing i suppose, that she has been going out in for a couple of hours a day, but the winds bad too so I can't even ride her as she hates wind.
I do try and spend as much time as poss in her stable with her, grooming and etc, but I just feel so guilty.
Am i being silly?
Am i the only one feeling like this?

You can only ever do the best you can - there is no sense beating yourself up because you can't control things like the weather!!

The horse will be fine. You are making the best decision you can for her, with the limited possibilities open to you, to keep her safe and healthy. She'll cope!

My youngster is having turn out in a mud pit for about 5 hours a day three/four days a week. He is only 3 but is coping well. I do put out hay but he prefers to be a tough cob and try to scrape up bits of weed/grass that is left.

On days he cannot go out, he has plenty of hay and is put in the school in the morning for about 45 minutes and then I excerise him evenings and let him have some time to groom his mate in the school.

Best I can do - very few places where I am that have lots of turnout and good grazing.

I don't feel bad, he is happy enough though is a bit bored and as a result destroying anything within reach - have given him various toys and a huge piece of wood to kill.

Roll on summer and 24 x 7 turnout.

yes, i'm feeling guilty too

they go out during daylight hours, but the feilds are quagmires and it's always raining

this time of year stinks doesn't it

I'm the opposite, and i do feel guilty!!
My pony is out 24/7 because she hates being stabled, and because everywhere else is so so so muddy she is out on the bottom of a bit of fell ground we have with plenty of natural shelter. The worst bit is that she is on her own as my old fell pony needs to be stabled and it is too far to take her for the day! How guilty do I feel??!!

i feel bad because im not riding my cob much as i have one ive just broken and one im working on
tacked cob up the other day and he grabbed for the bit and stuffed it in his own gob, the poor thing would probably tack himself up if he could work buckles

Today, it rained so heavily, I just got my son up and off to school, fed the horses, chopped wood, and read in front of a fire...

Now I am making him dinner and we're both off to bed early.

No guilt. I just imitated our cats and dog who slept(since they can't read,) and didn't pay a hoot...

I feel really guilty too. My mare hates being out in the rain and also has mud fever so she has to be in at the moment. I'm an avid believer in as much turnout as possible and so feel awful keeping her in but I have to say she doesn't seem particularly bothered. Lots of hay, cosy in rugs, gets to go out for a roll and socialise in the school and has others in to keep her company but I still feel bad! I just try and think of those poor Amersham horses and don't feel quite so guilty anymore.

I turned my ponies out today, normally on such a foul day would have popped back to check them & bring in if they wanted to come in, however my boss was out on the road with me today, i'm a sales rep, so I could hardly say "Oh, I normally use your diesel to drive back & check the ponies if its a vile day" could I? So spent the day full of guilt, then was relying on a friend to bring them in, as again could hardly say, "Got to get back now, its stable time", & guess what, he rang me & they were fine!! So all day spent with unnecessary guilt!!

Two rivers burst their banks and flooded towns down here (Cork, Ireland) last week which stopped me feeling guilty about the horses in the mud - there's nothing I can do except pray for an early spring! They've been going out every day into a muddy paddock I've sectioned off and come in at night. They are hoovering hay out there.

I don't ride December/january anyway so am just hibernating by the fire. Its the dogs that make me feel guilty but I try to give them a run even if its just a few minutes. One day last week they ended up just going for a drive as when I got to the beach it was pelting down so I just turned back and drove home again. Poor mutts.

Guess we all do the best we can. Felt guilty recently as horses out in bad weather and mud. Brought them in today and now feel guilty as they won't get out now until rain stops as one has a bit of mud fever. Winter is crap whatever roll on spring

Mine are out 24/7 and the way the wind has been blowing they have only bare trees to shelter them. So I feel guilty for having to leave them out - well the babies anyway, mine is fat and was toasty warm this morning!
I haven't been to work since Friday and I bet the horses haven't been out since Thursday last week. They're all going to be starting to boil at this point...
