I've just had a Basset hound brought in by breed rescue.
Nice dog, probably an Xmas present last year and from a place that is advertising over a dozen litters for sale; most with "full three generation pedigrees".

I am fully booked over Christmas but will probably put him in a stable.

May I ask anyone who is thinking of taking on a dog after Xmas to check in with breed groups and rescues now as knowing a home is available can make a big diference to resources.

Great advice, thanks for posting, hope he gets a home x

I don't suppose anything can be done about the place he came from?

The best thing that could happen is that people stop purchasing from puppy farms, puppy supermarkets or anywhere that has puppies that are bred for sale rather than as part of a breeding program aimed at producing the breeder's next show or working dog.
The place this Basset is from openly advertises many breeds and "designer" crosses and a quick google brings up many complaints. I even found their adverts for (I think) 9 breeds on a site warning of the risks of buying from somewhere with more than a couple of breeds.

Unfortunately too many people want a puppy "now" and keep these places in business.
Stop buying to stop them breeding!

Funny this....not sure which area u are in but we have just been asked to rehome 2 bassetts both from te same puppy farm, he also breeds another 10 different varieties of dog....*.wonders if it's the same dick head*

You would think people would learn about puppy farms but still they keep buying from them, or from muppets who produce "designer breeds". Daughter and I were having a moan about the ones in our local paper last night, various crosses with twee names, including one for a litter of pups, and also their mum aged 18 months old
