tongue~n~cheek, who has been so gracious on the Parelli threads, posted these links.
Just in case everyone hasn't seen them on those threads (I'm sure some of us avoid the Parelli stuff) I wanted to highlight them again.
It's really sad that more people have signed the anti-Parelli petition than this one. These poor wild horses are utterly terrified and imho horribly abused. Please have a look (if you can bear it. I couldn't tbh.)

If you want to stop horse abuse watch ALL of this:

then please please please sign this:

Thankyou.

Absolutely hideous. How can that possibly be entertainment? And even more so, how can that be allowed in prison?

What a horrible video! I managed to watch about half - petition signed!!

There are just a few points I'd like to make (hopefully you might feel better)
- Not all Rodeos are like this! I've been to quite a few (mainly in different South American countires and Aus) and there are some things that go on that aren't quite BHS but nothing as horrendus as this video. It really shocked me because in general I don't mind the whole 'rodeo scene'.

-Normally there is only 1 horse/bull in the arena at a time (not counting the 'marshalls') so less chance of them injuring each other/themselves. The horses are herded out of the arena into a corall not roped and pulled over.

- I have worked with several QH trainers over the years and they have all said that it is the sign of a badly trained rider(&horse) that will drag a cow. They (the horses) are meant to be taught to just maintain the tension on the rope.

- I'm not sure about the horses in this video, but in my experience the rodeo horses do that as their job, and ones that will buck well are looked after and sought out as rides (points based on time on board but the amount the horse bucks is also considered). Some of them double as riding horses, as with out the bucking strap they don't buck (too much).

I can only presume that as it was held in a prison it was being run by a group of people who really didn't know what they were doing and the cruelty was out of ignorance rather than intentional mistreatment.

i managed to watch the whole thing through ( only because i'm a bit used to it after doing some research into it for a school project) at the end it it horrific- you see a horse with i broken leg being made to walk and the leg is literally swining from side to side off the knee joint.

I think i could write a massive post about how cruel it is, going into fine details- but i don't think you have to be a genious to see how cruel this is! - just to add i think that all the cruel and unbelievable things we see human idiots do in the media etc- it desensitises us to cruel, shocking things we hear bout- Which in itself is extremely disturbing !

thanks everyone. Felicity, i'm not anti-rodeo, I realise they aren't usually like this.
Apparently this year's running was cancelled (because of public outrage?) so petitions etc might just lead to a permanent banning.
I just can't watch it all. Too awful.

I have a strong stomach for these types of things, but had to turn it off when watching the horse with the broken front legs being moved around and hustled about.

Sick doesn't even come close.

Kerilli - sorry didn't mean to imply that I thought you were anti-rodeo or that the post was an attack on rodeos in general.

I just thought that some people might not have had much exposure / knowledge of what most rodeos generally consist of and wanted to point out that they aren't all that violent. I'd been thinking about posting somthing similar for a while becasue of a post I read in NL (I think) a while ago which was openly anti-rodeo and some of the opinions voiced seemed very uninformed.

ETS - glad to hear it was cancelled this year (and hopefully permanently!)

I watched the whole thing. I don't mind rodeos per se, as Felicity said the top performer at Rodeos get pretty well treated but this was tantamount to bullying of unbroken wild horses. Not what good old rodeo guys would want to see. I also signed the petition and left a comment.

Words fail me - just what are the prison authorities trying to achieve? Is this supposed to help rehabilitate prisoners?? Signed and passed on

Absolutely horrific... forcing a horse with TWO broken legs to walk. My OH works in a prison and I think he would have quite a lot to say about this particular "rehabilitation" programme.
