today i sufferred a crashing fall from my normally quiet horse (goes to show nothing is bomb proof ). He took off with me across some fields bucking and bronking until i came off. I came off over his shoulder and he ended up galloping over me , standing on my arm and back . So even though i have a huge bruise on my arm and a stiff back i was able to get back on him (after i walked the mile back to the stables to find him !). i always wear my back protector , though i have often wondered why i bothered , i was only going on a quiet hack today but you just never know what will happen when your riding horses .
 
I was glued to mine! I started wearing mine after I was on my step mums horse who decided to gallop back to stables. I caught my leg on the wooden poles at the end of the bridle way and flew into stone path half a metre from moving vehicle.

Hope you are ok, sounds painful.
 
i'm fine thanks, stiff and a bit sore but i find i dont bounce so well these days now i'm getting old !!!

I wear mine when handling my youngsters now.
A few weeks ago i went to check the water in the field and was not only knocked to the floor but stood all over by my section D's.
They cracked a couple of ribs, although i didn't know that till later and bruised all the backs of my legs.
Who ever said horses will try to miss you??
These buggers aimed for me!!
 
Agree with this!

In the summer I was taking my mare out for a hack, she is a bit "special" but I trust her completley. I don't normally wear my BP but only put it on as after the hack I wanted to go in the school for a quick jump.

We cantered around a field that I normally canter fine in. We were going quite fast when my mare fell from underneath me. I was sent flying at high speed face first into the ground! I turned over and as my mare got up, she pulled herself up with both her front feet on my chest!

I had found out that she had fallen down a rabbit hole that wasn't there the previous day. luckily she was fine although would have bolted if I still hadn't had a hold of her reins!

I managed to escape with a few broken fingers, fractured nose and torn ligaments around my teeth. Also Had TERRIBLE whiplash....but nothing that would have compared if I had not have been wearing my body protector!!!!
 
Hope you recover ok, it is a reminder to us all, i am the type that wears mine when breaking youngsters but dont bother with the older horses, but i am getting better after my safe and sensible put in a silly the other day that caught me unawares
 
Totally agree, although I am naughty and haven't been wearing mine recently I should and thank you for taking the time to post to remind everyone.

Horses are a constant leveller!
 
I rather stupidly didn't wear mine on my new horse when it had a completely uncharacteristic bronking fit and shoulder drop and have now been unable to do anything much for well over 3 weeks and kicking myself that it could all have been avoided if i'd had it on..
 
Glad your ok! I always wear mine, Since im 16 it's not always 'cool' to do so but I'd much rather be fine then 'cool' tbh! My best mate has said things like 'ye I hate them there so uncomfy I only wear it if i really have to cos I trust my horse' I just think thats kinda stupid!

I'm 16 too - I always wear mine hacking. Since I've had my new 4yo I've worn mine every time I have ridden her
