We did a pleasure ride today which was interesting. :) We had a 2.5 mile hack to get there and loads of time to chill and dry off as it was pi55ing it down the entire time hacking over and then the sun came out :D

I then met the 2 lovely ladies that agreed to have me join them (as my map reading skills are dire). Five minutes out, the 3 mares were all happy with each other and the front one decided to catch the horses ahead and the second one followed. Til thought this was great and off she went. The moment I went *****! My reins were slippery after being soaked and I had my nice simple snaffle in = no brakes. We managed to stop them and then Til decided no mum, I want to go so we ended up jogging.

Further along, we cross a burn and then the horses went flying up the hill. Trying to stop my pony from cutting through the woods and she nearly ran headfirst into a tree so jumped to the side and carried on.

Three women and 3 ponies and not one of us had brakes :eek We had all forgotten our usual bits for exciting times! And a pony that puts its head to the floor while cantering is a bit dubious but I could not keep her head up. :p

A palomino then crossed in front of us (at the point we'd wrestled back control with me and my reins knotted in a futile attempt at stopping them slipping) and Til saw this horse and decided that was her new companion. She saw this horse and legged it after it as I struggled to bring her back to her other friends.

We then took a wrong route and realised we were on the road to the check point we'd left 15 minutes previously. So back we went, found the correct turning and ponies still jogging as they got home (as other horses had overtaken and Til decided again, that these could be her new friends).

Trotted up fine and heart beat ok (I was slightly concerned as we normally walk/trot and don't do much canter).

Then we left not soon after to head home. Pony decided to set her own pace = cantering through the woods and we made it home in record time and she was barely sweaty. Got home and tied her up. Another horse was leaving for a hack and what a tizzy Til threw, because she wanted to go too.

Kimblewick and gloves are a must but I think we could enjoy this :) You can see that all the effort I made the other day in working on her brakes and getting her listening really paid off, eh? Oh well!
