Hi all,

I am contemplating going on my first pleasure ride with my gypsy cob and I have questions about how to go about it !

I am already a member of Endurance GB (for insurance) so looking to do some pleasure rides with them.

I am correct in thinking that the pleasure rides with them are more competitive then with Sport Endurance?
The minimum speed required is 8 kph but it doesn't seem to have a minimum speed for the rides with Sport Endurance?

Currently I ride about 3 times a week (will start doing 3-4 times a week) and I know that my cob can do 5 miles rides (trotting 80% of the time) without sweating to much or showing signs of being tired.
Now the ride I am looking is at the end of April and is 20km (12 miles)long . I think I need to increase is fitness levels a little bit to make sure he will be ok..he is very slow at walk so I think he needs to be trotting most of the time?
I am thinking of doing 1-2 days/week hacking (5 miles for a few weeks) and 1-2/week days lunging/schooling and increase the hacking to about 9 miles (1-2 times a week).
Does that seem like a good plan?

Also nervous about going on my first ride as I am not too sure what to expect ...
If anyone is going to pleasure ride on the Sunday 26 April 2015 (Leyland, Lancashire) and would not mind showing me how things works that would be great !

I have not gone anywhere with my cob yet but I plan to try and go on a farm ride to see how he behaves outside his yard !
I need to arrange transport too so I will either be looking at paying someone to bring us and wait for us or renting a horse trailer (however I will have to rely on my husband as I do not have the correct driving license to be able to tow)..so any recommendation (Lymm,Cheshire area) would be welcomed !

Oufff I lot of questions here

Your fittening plan sounds like plenty to me for a 20k PL. Perhaps just pop an email to the entries secretary, asking if they can help you find a ride buddy for your first time. There's always people looking for buddies, and it can be a great confidence giver for you!

Take a look at the page, there's loads of info on there.

thanks, yes I already looked on both the sport endurance and the endurance GB website. I find the information is quite general. What I would like to find is for example what I need to do when I arrive at the venue (list). List of things to bring...as you can tell I love lists !! I guess I will have to make my own!

Thank you ,I actually might have someone who would come with me but she is a novice too (we both bought our horses from the same riding school and at the same time !)..so it would be nice to find another more experienced buddy..I will contact the secretary to see if anyone would be interested !

I'm really excited about doing this, just hope my cob with behave when we go to different places (he naps at home so it's a lot of hard work sometimes to get him to move forward at first ! Hopefully it will be easier away from the yard !)
