Thinking of taking missy moo to one towards the end of august, YO is taking her mare who is laid back and sensible, She has asked me if I wanted to take missy, So I am really thinking about it .

Its only a short one and nothing to fast .

Has anyone taken their youngster ?? and at what age where they ?

I took mine on his first one when he was 5, I'd had him since he was 4 but I had no brakes at all out hacking, I went with a friend on her 4 year old who wasn't much better and we looked at each other in the lorry on the way and said "wtf are we doing??" - having said that they were both foot perfect, absolutely fab. All I would say is, keep moving - just go with the flow and you'll be grand. You very, very rarely see anyone having problems. I would say if you have a sensible horse to go with, and it's a short one, it would be absolutely perfect

I took my 4 yr old when he was 4 and he has been on couple since he has been 5. They are great loads of fun normally little road work. You have the right to ask people to pass you in walk and they will do so. On the 1st one we took a pack of polos and as the horses passed we feed a polo to keep there attention on us not he horse passing. They also set you off with a gap inbetween groups so as long as you keep moving at a stead pass you should not meet to many others. Or ask to leave as the last group then you will not have anyone pass you.

Go you will have a ball!!

ride with caution - ive just read a new thread on horsegossip of an experience hunt/event rider going on a sponsored ride, the organisers didnt keep the gap between horses setting off long enough, just a couple of seconds she said. Needless to say and i dont want to frighten you but she came off and is now in a spinal unit in hospital hoping to come out by the end of july! Then again i have been on them in the past on an absolute genuine angel and had a great time.

Took Bodey to his first one just turned 5! It was really fun and he was great, but IMO they are never partially slow. Or if you go slow expect a lot of horses to come past you, how do you think Missy would cope with that?

They are great fun though!
