Hi all you clever little HHOers.

My friend is selling her pony and is struggling with her ad/price etc. So... i thought i'd ask you guys, as you helped me write such a fab one to find a sharer for Raff... here's his basic info... can anyone make it sound like an advert please?
also.... what price?

14.1hh Connemara x gelding
dapple grey
8 yr old
done all RC activities,
totally uncomplicated to ride

good doer
a REAL showstopper/looker/headturner
lovely movement, and very easy to ride
100% to shoe, load, in traffic, to hack, to hunt, to ride. could be ridden by a relative novice, and would go well for them
really enjoys being worked
brave xc
can be cheeky on the ground (usually when not handled regularly, or if allowed to get away with it), so wouldn't be good as a first pony. and would ideally go to a teenager/adult (or a riding school as he really is ANYBODY's ride).
would be an excellent hunter. would also excel in working hunter classes.

here are some pics, taken from a phone. we are going to wash him (and get the burrs out of his tail...) and get some better pics... what do we need? confo shot? schooling shot? jumping shot? cute shot? would it be worth getting a video too? as he moves so well?

Age???

Definately a conformation shot after he's been tidied up and trimmed.

And a good ridden shot and maybe something over a fence.

Video is always a good idea (if the jockey is decent only though, imo).

Oh dear, if I had seen him there last week I think I would have taken him and ridden him home!

He sounds like a really nice genuine pony, I would guess at least £3.5k assuming not registered otherwise he would have easily been £5.5k here. Connemaras are very popular and the handling issues sound as though they would be easily ironed out with consistent handling.

He looks nice but like he is being pulled down onto the bit by the rider widening her hands which isnt ideal to show for advertising purposes. I agree that he needs a tidy up and a decent side on pic then a video of him working nicely without being pulled in and in walk trot and canter and maybe popping a small fence.
I would think around 2.5 - 3k with some nice pics.

probably a good job you didn't see him then! it's a long hack home!

he's a lovely pony, and like you say, handling issues are easily controlled/ironed out with consistent handling. i think the problem my friend has is that he could easily be ridden by a novice/child... but they wouldn't necessarily be the best person to handle him daily. i do wonder if he'd be suited to a riding school where he's handled regularly and kept busy.

thank you for the lovely comments!

p.s. raff's back is getting much better! x

looks like my friend has a weekend of shampoo, whitener and scissors ahead of her... ;)

:D

thank you for the advice!

Hi

I know you say 100% traffic, is that in heavy traffic, with lorry's, tractors, motorbikes etc? As I know someone looking for a simmilar type to yours, but it has to be 100% in the heaviest traffic.

I know your south lincs, are you sutton st james? as I recognise the yard in the pics, PM if you'd prefer

scallywags / Jill

I think as he needs confident handling I'd be inclined to market him more as a pony club all rounder type.

Do put in any competitive experience or results even if just unaffliliated.

Looks like he could be super for an older child, or as a mother daughter share.

If you think he'd be suited to a riding school it would be worth calling some good ones and asking if they are interested before you pay for an ad. Often if the right horse comes up they will buy even if they aren't looking, and he does sound like he would be a useful sort. 14hh - 15.2hh are the most versatile in a riding school and natives will carry plenty of weight. Handling issues aren't normally a big problem either as the staff will do the vast majority of this.

as far as i know, he's 100% in ALL traffic, but i will check for you and let you know. friend is very near sutton st james, about 5 miles from there (that's a complete guess, my geography is useless). let me get hold of her and check about very heavy traffic and i'll let you know.

p.s. did you hold a myler bitting day the other day (sorry, random question!). if that was you... how did it go? was it very interesting?

He sounds perfect - but I am not looking for another horse. Repeat, not looking for another horse (pm with the price your friend decides on anyway).

Glad to hear Raff is doing well - how is the hacking going?

If he jumps well, then I would use a jumping shot as your main advert picture. If you haven't got one taken at a show or competition, then try and get a decent side on shot of him jumping something like a spread with a filler - that is more eye-catching than just a single pole on some wings. It is worth finding a friend with a decent digital camera to come and take the shots for you to ensure they are not blurred etc! Get them to take tons of pics - literally keep clicking so you can choose the best ones - if they have a setting where the camera takes a continuous stream of photos when button is held down then that is useful to get the right point over the jump.

Then a flatwork shot and a confo shot, both side on. If you are only allowed two photos then I would go for a flatwork shot if the flatwork is good. Try and find a clear, uncluttered background to take the shots against.

you are NOT looking for another horse. not looking for another horse... but he's SOOO cute

:D

hacking was going okay... until my hacking buddy bolted... and i was left on a bucking horse wanting to follow (although, in his defence, he didn't make any real attempt to bolt too). am now scared to hack... hohum. one step forward... 8 million steps back... it looks like, after 30 years of riding... i'm going to have to go back to lead rein... :(

thank you for the fab advice! he's got a lovely jump, so i'll have fun mustering up a giant spread for her... and i'll take my funky new camera down too. :D

how does this sound?

14.1hh Connemara x gelding, beautifully marked dapple grey. with lovely paces. 8 years old. Done all RC activites. Totally uncomplicated and safe ride - hunts, hacks, jumps and schools excellently. 100% in heaviest traffic, shoe, box etc. Unphased by anything, non spooky, bold XC. Can be cheeky on the ground, hence needs confident handler. Otherwise can be ridden by a novice.

that last bit sounds a bit lame doesn't it? help!
price? help!

:o

Thanks, I'll pass his info on to my friend. Is the owner Suzie ?

Yes, I did hold a myler bitting day : D It was a great day, with lots of bitting info, and some great horses came. I also did the 2 day accreditation with Dale Myler, so now am accreditated as an advisor, and retailer.

I would say something like snaffle mouthed in all disciplines, good brakes, would be suitable for novice/child or can go up a gear with experienced rider (excellent mother-daughter share). Needs confident handling on the ground.

Price, um £5 ... and I'll pick him up this weekend?

oh dear, although comforting to know that with all of that happening Raff didnt do anything! Its nice to see their worst and being able to cope with it - that way there is less unknown. For example, now you dont have to be scared about what he will do or how you would cope if your hacking buddy bolted. He was fine and you coped brilliantly. If that had happened to me, I would probably be halfway to lincs!

How about:

14.1hh 8 yr old Connemara x gelding, beautifully marked dapple grey. Lovely paces would excel in an sphere. Done all RC activites, totally uncomplicated and safe ride. Snaffle mouthed in all disciplines, good brakes, would suit novice/child or can go up a gear with experienced rider would make perfect mother-daughter shares. 100% in heaviest traffic, shoe, box etc. Unphased by anything, non spooky, bold XC. Can be cheeky on the ground, hence needs confident handler. Good home a priority.

I think it is always nice to say good home a priority, and that they arent just trying to offload him! might say why he is up for sale such as too small/outgrown/moving onto horses/giving up etc.
