i've just got back from seeing to the horses this evening. I only go up once mid week and at the weekend during the winter and my parents do the bare minimum for me the other days. I go up every day in the summer.

I've just had to put them onto shavings cos the only straw we could find was cr*p and was giving tom a cough.

Ron doesn't like shavings (mostly cos he can't eat them) and refuses to stand on them

- he stands on the concrete and then digs a huge mound of shavings to wee on. It does make mucking him out easy tho!

Tom - is weird at the best of times (he threw his dandy brush over the stable door at the farrier last week, and puts his stable rug in the water barrel given half a chance

), but when I put him in after mucking out today he dug a pit in the middle of the shavings, walked round his stable, reversed up to the hole, looked round to check, wiggled a bit closer, checked again then lifted his tail to fill said hole with a great steaming pile!

I couldn't stand up for laughing and the dog clearly thought i was dying cos she came rushing up to check i was ok!

i was just waiting for him to turn round and cover it up like a cat. we usually find it all covered up in the morning... but then there's also usually hay and shavings in his water barrel and his grooming kit is buried all over the shop, and it'll look like he's tried to turn it into a swamp.... revolting really, but he's so amusing.
