Pls, if you did, could you let me know what tricky things were on the xcs? Coffin, any decent ditches, etc? Horse i'm buying did those three, all clear, and i'd just like to know what was there. Thankyou.
Highclere was big but straightforward. There was a splash through water, a 'trakhener' which was really a hanging log with woodchip in a scrape underneath but which caused carnage for no obvious reason other than really rubbish riding! A step up to skinny - caught a few out on the skinny roll top, a sort of sunken road, but you went down a bank and up a bank rather than steps, a corner, think that was about it. It was big but straightforward IMO, and rode beautifully. Also ground was sticky/deep on takeoffs, so some were caught out by that and did not ride forwards enough. Course pics will be up on Eventingworldwide at some point.
Smiths lawn has lots of twists and turn through the woods where you turn a corner and there is a jump. Tricky water where you go dowm a step straight into a huge lake (Virginia water, it was very deep!)
Smiths Lawn-course was causing some problems. Its quite windy-all in wooded area and is quite spooky-jumps come out from nowhere on tight corners/turns.
2 big steps down to a 'hollow' then up narrow steps otherside to a pallisade-needed some serious 'oommph' to get up there as horses tended to have a good look down from top of the steps down. Not a technical course in regards to combinations/skinnies etc-the terrain and setting made up for that!
Burnham Beeches was fairly straightforward, had a double of tyres, a trakaener which caused a few problems, the steps were fairly steep. A jump upto a bank with log (?) on top, also some bright blue barrels which some horses didn't like
