Oh where to start :(

For the last month my boy has had a high respiratory rate and labored breathing, he was generally quiet in himself but still reasonable bright and happy to mooch round the field with his mates and have a run around, it was thought to be a virus then post viral depression, bloods all normal, never had a temp, runny nose or significant cough. Eating, drinking everything else normal.

On a follow up visit the vet then noticed he had a raised heart rate and arranged for his partner to come out and perform a ECG on Friday which was normal, and again pvd was given as the most likely problem.

Spoke to vet on Tuesday as was worried about the effect the heat had had on him, vet popped out was concerned heart rate and breathing still not right, so yesterday they both came back to do scope and scan xray as necessary.

To cut a long story slightly less long :o the scan showed that his liver, intestine and diaphragm were much further forward than they should be.

They feel its one of two things, either a type of pneumonia or a diaphragmic hernia, which is very rare apparently. He has some symptons but not all for either.

Has anyone had a horse with either of those, surely pneumonia shows itself with more obvious symptons than he is showing

I'm devestated to go from having a previously happy healthy and fit horse with a virus to a horse with a serious problem with poor prognosis :(

Has anyone come across anything like this before?

My horse had a pneumonia several years ago...he went on very high temperature through more than a week, and runny nose...he had to be on antibiotics

I think it has nothing to do with your boy sympthoms, ask the vet for more exams.
