My 7 month old has been disagnosed with Pneumonia today (assuming viral) I think we caught it early but her breathing is more laboured today and very snotty , Shes on box rest, Norodine and I will be picking something up tomorrow for to help get rid of the snot apparently. Told to keep her in and see how we go.

Any one else had experience of this? Ive got two other horses both older with better immune systems so Im hoping I dont get a stable of 3 with it. thanks

My experience on pneumonia in foals is that it doesn't tend to spread round the adults like a viral 'flu tends to. It is more commonly bacterial, but viral causes may be more likely as the foal is older, especially if you haven't started the vaccs yet.

There are loads of different causes of Pneumonia in foals and the age alters the most likely causes quite a lot. I'm sure your vet would warn you if they felt the causal agent was likely to be significantly contagious to the others.
