POA

I have posted this same topic on other forums and here is a quick (and by no means conclusive) snapshot of general opinion.

Most commented POA means can't afford or high priced.

A few people commented that owners got 'huffy' 'arsey' 'irritated' if you ask how much at the start of the conversation, the motivation of doing so is to find out if the horse is within their price range, so the seller lables them a timewaster.

Similarly if you listen while the seller tells you about the horse, then says how much it is and you say that it is over your price range you are labled a timewaster.

So perhaps adverts which say POA readvertised due to timewasters actually means people are labled as timewasters because they phoned up and the horse was too expensive.

So what would be a good alternative to POA?

Perhaps a price guide e, Band A under £1500, B £1500 to £2500, C £2500 to £4000 and so on.
Home more important than price.
Priced to sell to good home only.
Priced to sell - homes will be vetted/inspected.

What do you think as it seems that if you do phone up a POA horse you are deemed a timewaster unless you actually buy the horse!!

Labled if do and labled if you don't!

I think some of you could be missing out on some really great horses! And not necessarily expensive ones - POA doesn't always mean expensive: it can mean the horse is cheaper than one would expect, but the seller does not want to 'broadcast' this.

When I bought Tobago he was not advertised and very emphatically Not For Sale, as I was told umpteen times when I rang asking to see him - I had to beg and plead for ages to be allowed to buy him - so I certainly wouldn't let a little thing like 'POA' put me off!

I would just ring and say something like "The horse sounds super, but I really don't want to waste your time, so can I just check first that he is within my budget?"

I don't see how any seller could possibly object to that - it's perfectly polite and perfectly reasonable. And makes it absolutely clear that one is not a timewaster!
